We booked a table at Alpha for lunch last Sunday for Mothers' Day. Our daughter and son-in-law had dined there before, and had loved everything about it. The six of us were given an excellent table close to the front of the restaurant, in a little private area but still part of the large, beautiful Alpha space. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu, and offered great advice about what to order. We simply selected a whole lot of dishes and they brought them out in sequence. We started with a trio of dips, which were tzatziki, taramasalata and eggplant. Brilliant, especially the eggplant. They came with gorgeous soft bread and plenty of it. (We did order extra at the start). Then a grilled octopus dish, spanakopita (a whole one, served at the table), falafel(!) and this amazing homemade feta. The pièce de resistance was the slow cooked lamb. Massive, tender and soft, with potatoes and greens. Amazing. We had one bottle of Greek chardonnay, one beer, and tea or coffee for six. The bill was $300 including tip. Alpha is traditional Greek food at its very best. There were lots of tables of families, all enjoying themselves, creating a warm and welcoming ambience. We will definitely be back!
