“A great little bar and restaurant hidden down a lane”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

A quirky little bar and restaurant split over two levels, hidden down a lane. Food was interesting and the charcuterie plate a fabulous shared dish.
Well worth a visit

“Great Little Bar & Eating House”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013

One of Sydney's new small bars that have opened in the last couple of years. Went recently here with friends to catch up for a drink and wound up having dinner upstairs in the eating house. Food beat expectations and was surprisingly good. Cocktails were different to standard fare and service was cheerful and friendly. A quirky little out of the way bar in the CBD with a great atmosphere.

“Great little bar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

This was a great unexpected find.... at the end of a nondescript alleyway. Great drinks, kooky decor and groovy little mason jar glasses! Totally hipster - but fun nonetheless!

“fabulous... Just fabulous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013 via mobile

was served by a lovely blonde girl. It's refreshing to actually be greated with a smile in a bar and then served incredible cocktails.
I will be back!

“Turn right at the end of the Lane”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

If you've wandered down George Street you've probably passed Temperance Lane without ever realising it, in truth it's more like an alley and Grasshopper is tucked in at the very end once you've taken a right hand turn. There's minimal signposting so it's all a bit of an adventure.

Set over two levels - bar downstairs, restuarant up, it has the feel if the warehouse it probably was. Warm, inviting and eclectic. Friendly, helpful staff talked us through the menus, I think 4/5 of us went for the daily specials from the blackboard. Similarly there's a wine list and a specials board with many available by the glass. Meals had a traditional French feel with the odd twist. My beef was rich and succulent in a gorgeous garlicky, red wine sauce and bone marrow on the side. Teamed with a glorious potato dauphinois it was a perfect dish for a miserable cold nights. My colleagues were equally impressed and the vegetarian amongst us had a 'wish I'd chosen that' dish. A cheese platter to share to finish off. Water served in jam jars ( as are the cocktails).

To find Grasshopper look for Temperance Lane opposite Dymocks in George Street. A beautiful, small restuarant ( maybe bistro?), I'll be back.
