“Cuban Experience in CBD”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

LBDM is a Cuban bar and restaurant behind the QVB. The house cocktail is of course the Mojito, at $10 it is pretty good value. Other cocktails I tried were the Hemingway Special ($16) and Ernest’s Breakfast ($17) - both of which I loved! You definitely don’t come here from a cheap night out but the cocktails are well worth it.
After a couple of cocktails my friend and I shared the Paella Criolla ($49). The serving (for two) isn’t huge and didn’t have a lot of seafood. I also found the rice very hard. Overall I’ve had much better Paella elsewhere so I was left a little disappointed.
The atmosphere of LBDM is lively and buzzing – especially after work. Peak time appears to be between 6-8pm. After 8pm the live Cuban band plays in the downstairs bar, accompanied by Salsa dancing.
This is a great place to hang out with friends. Really lovely décor, friendly staff & good cocktails.

“Best $10 mojitos ever spent!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Good place to hang out with friends and have a couple of drinks with an outdoor terrace if you want to be out in natural weather. The graffiti art on the wall ads to the very personal ambience

“Taste of Havana, maybe...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

sent here on a recommendation from friend who works at a legal practice a few metres away. Slow to get seated and we chose a booth sitting, but while seating was comfortable, tables were too small for the space, so we had to move them in to reach our meals! Noticed on site this is a franchise but decor is still entertaining-heaps of atmosphere! Being Cuban/Spanish, there is a huge lean towards beef dishes, but meals seem to be authentic-not sure about the recipes,tho... Service was friendly but not fast and it wasn't busy when we arrived. Have to say dishes were pleasing and portions were very generous-if we go again, will share a meal. Wine list could have a broader selection and better priced-but hey, Sydney prices, you know... Didn't have an experience anything like the other reviewers, maybe they've lifted their game-they do offer a customer comments card, which I'd recommend patrons complete-like to think any business can be better-they need to know how to be!

“Appalling food and worse service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2012

I'd never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Shockingly awful in many many ways.

The first time we went there, we were taken to a table and sat down, waited for over 10 minutes before someone came over and told us that we couldn't eat there as they had a reservation. We were told we had to be moved and they wanted to move us to the bar area to eat. (We'd have to stand up to as they were bar tables). We were treated very rudely and swore we'd never go back.

Went back there this weekend for a friend's 35th birthday. The food was awful, it was a set 3 course meal for $55. The porterhouse steak was worse than a typical $10 steak you'd buy in a pub. All of us who chose the steak had more fat and gristle than meat. Very cheap cuts.

Food was cold and horrible, service was shocking, several times we had to ask for the same things, we had to get our own drinks from the bar, staff were rude, they didn't have enough steak knives, food orders were wrong, had to wait 30 minutes for starters. To top it off we were made to pay an additional 10% for having 8 people which we were never told about, and had to have a fixed menu and couldn't choose off the a la carte.

After complaining to the manager on the night he had a childish tantrum and through the bill wallet at us.

If I were rich I'd pay people to stand outside this place to recommend to eat elsewhere.
