“Wow! PERFECT food, ambiance, and service AND GF friendly.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

We travel a lot and have our favorites in some cities to which we always hope to return. This would be our pick in Sydney. The service was perfectly timed and responsive to our needs and preferences. Gluten free dishes were carefully and (how many times can I use this word) perfectly prepared for both of so we could share. The duck melted on my mouth it was moist and tender but retained a full well balanced flavor. The pork as well was outstanding. and don't miss the lavender crème brûlée served in a wide dish to maximize the brûlée part and very gently flavored. Yum. Don't miss this of you are in Sydney. It is very close to the Kings Cross station with a small door on Victoria leading to quiet and elegant upstairs space.

“very enjoyable dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

from the white linen covered tables, through the staff, wine and food, this is a lovely place to dine. A step up in price and quality from several nearby restaurants and in many respects keeping to the fine traditions of good restaurants. Daily specials were very enticing and both the duck liver pate starter and slow cooked lamb shoulder Moroccan style main were first class. From the regular menu, the gaspacho (with scallop and crab meat) and gnocchi a la parisienne with its flavoursome truffle mornay top, among the starters, were devoured with pleasure. And for duck lovers, a wonderful tasting meal awaits. Wine list by the glass or bottle offers plenty of choice locally and from overseas with some fairly priced quality french selections. If you can fit it in, don't miss dessert here. Throughout the night we were expertly attended to by friendly, efficient and knowledgeable waiters, the french accents adding to our experience. Ours was a casual night out with friends but the place also suits that special occasion or romantic dinner.

“Authentic French Bistro Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Enjoyed dinner here recently with a very good friend. Began with fresh bread with salted butter and olive oil, marinated olives, saucisson artisanal de Jean Marc and cornichons - a delicious introduction to this fine bistro! My husband and our friend had lychee martinis and we all shared a lovely French cabernet merlot. For entree we shared the pork head terrine (a special for the evening), half a dozen oysters and the house smoked king salmon. For main I had the herb crusted lamb backstrap which was so tender and moist. My husband and our friend enjoyed the veal, another special for the evening. Dessert was the delectable flambéed Grand Marnier crêpes Suzette with vanilla ice cream which was prepared at the table and the raspberry creme brulee. Situated overlooking busy Victoria Street, you are blissfully unaware of the city outside. A five star dining experience!

“simple, French chic bistro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

Love this place - it is ALL SO FRENCH

Great table service, simple menu, yummy foreign wine list and sweet sweet desserts.

Dark lighting that is very complimentary to the romantic mood of the room. Highly recommended for a first date, a date night and a chin wag with the girls. oh la la.

“Paris in Darlo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

We have been to Tastevin on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. The owner, Alex, is extremely charming and always makes us very welcome. The room itself is cosy, with windows looking over busy Victoria Street. Service is always professional, either by Alex or one of his French waiters. The wine list is comprehensive and includes some good value, very drinkable wines. Best of all, though, is the food which is always good - either from the menu or the daily specials. Tastevin is our own little bit of Paris in Darlinghurst - and we love it!
