“What a View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

Best located self contained holiday apartments in Sydney. If you can afford the rooms with the views then go for it - they are fantastic. The rooms themselves range depending upon if you get ones that have been recently renovated or not - and it can be quite a difference. Also no air conditioning - only ceiling fans. and the hot water can be dodgy - but the views are great! Hopeless for wheelchair access - same for oversize prams - bring the stroller instead.

Room Tip: higher up is better but all rooms are noisy, especially if the windows need to be open

I first learned of Harbourside Apartments from Gourmet Traveller & what a great find for a discerning traveller. As I spend long hours in the artificial air of an office; it is a relief to find accommodation with such a stunning view plus a beautiful breeze off the harbour - no aircon - fantastic. I slept with the windows wide open & was awakened in the morning by Rainbow Lorikeets - this is truly what Sydney has over other great cities. Such a spectacular location with nature right on your doorstep. Staff were friendly & willing to help with tips for restaurants etc. Other reviewers were not happy with the sounds of Luna Park. I think it is a bonus to hear the sounds of kids having a good time. A perfect alternative to the big impersonal chains.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the harbour, it is well worth the extra cost.

After staying here for 3 weeks with work in January I chose to re book for 5 nights when my fiancé flew out from the UK to join me. I booked a non view studio room but asked for a high floor. They put us on the top floor and the room was perfect. It still had a view albeit not one of the opera house but you get that envy time you walk out the front door anyway. Lower non view rooms may look out onto buildings but our room on the 13th floor cleared these which was brilliant. The room felt like a boutique hotel it was so well presented and for the price was very impressive. Don't be put off by the location, even though its across the water from circular quay there is a ferry port right outside that takes you the scenic route past the opera house in less than 5 mins for $5 plus you have all the lovely restaurants on blues point road (Olivios for brunch for the red eggs is a must!) that don't have all the tourists milling around. We honestly didn't want to leave and will definitely stay here when we return.

If this place was quieter it would be fine. It's in a lovely spot right on the harbour, ferry at the door, clean comfortable rooms, and helpful staff.

We had a one bedroom apartment on the 10th floor. With no airconditioning over the Easter long weekend you had no option but to have the windows open. On Friday night that meant an evening listening to the screams from the rides at Luna Park - a few hundred metres directly across the water. And on Saturday night a party outside at a neighbouring property added to this noise.

We were unlucky with the party noise, but no aircon or double glazing made it worse. And Luna Park must be an ongoing noise on weekends. Not suitable for us. We'll go back to Hyde Park Inn next visit to Sydney.

Harbourside prides itself on fantastic Sydney Harbour waterfront views and location, something our guests love and is just one of the reasons why we are so popular with Australian and international guests. Many of the positive comments describe our property as quiet and peaceful, unfortunately you did not seem to experience this on your stay.

We left after only one night (25th March 13). Sensational views and a brilliant location with ferry service right on your doorstep BUT,,,, big picture windows caused our one bedroom apartment to boil like a sauna. No air-conditioning and no ceiling fans!!! Only a single, portable fan - what a joke. We could not get to sleep until two AM when the room cooled off.

Shower water temperature on level 14 was uncontrollable and would cycle from scalding hot to stone cold - dangerous for kids. We found the staff to be friendly. Room was very clean. Building old but functional. Tricky car parking but OK.

My suggestion to international travellers, lots of alternatives in this price range. Don't risk it with this mob.

We stayed for two weeks in March 2013. We were pleased to be among the first users of the new wifi (at a cost - $40 for one week) which was a joy! The apartment we stayed in (No 13) was clean but not in the first flush of youth, but we liked it. Kitchen had basic equipment, dishwaster, proper cooker (gas), fridge freezer and enough pans/utensils to get a spag bol or simple meal on the table. TV with DVD player, IPOD doc/alarm unit in bedroom and plenty of cupboards for storage. Pool area exceptionally clean and well maintained and reception staff friendly and helpful. Tea and coffee supplies refreshed daily, as are bathroom towels. Location, proximity to ferries and view all outstanding. We will return for sure. As soppy dog owners we enjoyed seeing Paris the golden retriever and her little friend in reception from time to time. The higher the floor the better the view in this building and if you book a room, be sure to ask for one at the front of the building, rather than the back - these still have a view but the rooms at the front have a better one (although will be hotter as they get more sun). Important - if you go at the peak of summer, there is no air conditioning, but we had a couple of pretty industrial fans in our cupboard to help keep us cool. Definitely recommend Harbourside apartments. Restaurants on Blues Point Road really good, but beware of the grocers and delis on this stretch - they are outrageously expensive - make sure you go to either IGA (in apartment guide book) in North Sydney (10 mins walk) or get the bus to Coles at Military Road, as much more choice and much more reasonably priced. ps comfy UK king sized bed.

Room Tip: Choose room on a floor above 6 and at the front of the building

After recommendation we stayed at Harbourside Apartments for our short visit to Sydney. Our apartment was a single bedroom apartment on the 10th floor. The whole experience proved better than we were led to believe. Coupled with the view of Sydney (which has to be one of the best in any city world wide), the facilities, and the helpfulness of the staff, makes this a must stay location. The only problem was having to leave.
