“Great Hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Stayed here in a 4 bed dorm and it was nice. Nothing spectacular, just standard dorm with clean common spaces. Very centrally located. Bar in the basement has amazing happy hour deals, although if you're over 25 years old, you'd need to be pretty drunk to stay there in middle of the 19-20 year old crowd. But that is what the hostel caters for that that is fine. Basically good location, clean room, and affordable price.

Nice, clean friendly, hostel. Very central to all local attractions. Expensive WiFi, was only thing that put me off. Not to noisey. I stayed in a 4 dorm and had a blast. There is a bar right next door, that gets rowdy, but overall it's a great stay for your first time in Sydney.

Room Tip: Ask for a 4,6,8 or 10 dorm. Cheapest is 10 dorm. Which is spacious.

stayed at wake up while i was in sydney. location is great. great distance from chinatown, george street, darling harbour. Just walk from the hostel to sydney opera house, the rocks etc did not spend a dime on public transport. There's a free 555 bus that goes around in the city. Room is clean and cosy. Staff are friendly. The only drawback is that the internet are charged at a steep rate.

Room Tip: Get a private room for more privacy but at a higher price.

I stayed here for 3 nights. Good location, near to the Paddy's Market and just cross the street to the Central Station that make you easier if you need to catch a train to the airport. Public transportation such as bus and taxi was easy to get from the hotel. You also can find lots of restaurant around the hostel. I stayed with 5 friends in 10 bed mixed dorm. Well, it was my 1st time to stayed in a hostel, if I can say a Backpacker Hostel. But it was really a good experience for me so I can share it to other people. The bedroom was big with 5 bunk beds. The hostel provide towel, blanket/quilt/doona, and also the bed sheet. The bathroom and toilets were pretty clean and there was a laundry room that you can use but not for free. You have to insert coins to make it works. The kitchen/fridge was pretty full so I only use the microwave. This hostel also provide free vodafone sim card that you can get at the reception. Really recommend this Wake Up! Hostel.

I stayed in Wake Up for just over a week, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful! I stayed in a 10 bed mixed dorm and it was huge! The beds were comfy and there was lockers in the room for you to put your belongings. There was a shared bathroom and toilets on my level, the 2nd level, and they were so clean and everything looked new. The whole of the first floor is the kitchen, eating area and common room with a large tv. The kitchen had enough fridges and shelves and was cleaned daily. The hostel is right in the centre of Sydney, next too the bus station and the train station, and being around 15 minute walk from Darling Harbour and around 35 minute walk from the Opera House. Wake Up held many cheap drinking nights downstairs in their bar/club and also held trivia's, free BBQ's and live music sessions. The bar got pretty busy but everyone was so friendly, and it's also one level below the ground floor, so you hardly hear the music when you are trying to sleep.
Great hostel, would definitely stay here again and again!!

I had a last minute booking here for a private room when my hotel reservation didn't pan out and wasn't disappointed. Being a hostel, it does have basic amenities - don't expect 5 star luxury but they were good enough for the stay given that you'll mostly be out of your room doing touristy things anyway. Check in was a breeze, staff were helpful, engaged and all smiles - they looked like they were having a lot of fun doing their jobs! The room was basic but had a TV and a good view of the central station from the 5th floor. It wasn't too noisy and my room was on the higher floors so that helped. Easy walking distance to the sights and the main train station. The shared toilet could use better cleaning but I guess it's the guests themselves who really don't care about the cleanliness - though I never found it too filthy (just use slippers!) and it was quite well-maintained. Their cafe have a good selection of eats - loved their wholemeal pancakes and hot chocolate. They have a dedicated tour desk manned by an awesome lady who recommended to me the best Blue Mountains tour - she even asked me after the trip how it was to ensure that I had a great time. Now that's first class service! :)

I stayed here whilst finding my feet in Sydney. It was the ideal base and the only place that I stayed we're I didn't see a single cockroach! And they are everywhere! I was pleasantly surprised by this place and think it was great value. I stayed in a number of different mixed dorms within the hostel some a bit more clean than others, I think they should Hoover the carpets a bit more frequently. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The hostel is mainly full of young backpackers on the next leg of their trips and I was worried that it would be really noisy but only the odd night. Had some food downstairs in the bar which was really reasonably especially for an expensive city such as Sydney. I would recommend this place and if I needed an affordable place to stay I would book it again.
