“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

The hotel room was small but a great price for 2 adults and a teenager especially when it is so close to everything in the city. Rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. Bathroom vanity area was small but the shower was a good size. My biggest criticism would be the hot water - it must have been regulated because even when it was turned on fully you did not need any cold water - okay on a autumn day but maybe no so good in winter. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it it to anyone who was really just wanting to spend their time out and about site seeing.

Stayed April 2015

We stayed here at Easter for 2 nights in a twin single room. The room was very small but we knew that before we booked and we didn't spend much time in the room. The beds were very comfy. The bathroom and toiletries were very nice, TV easy to use and tea/coffee provided. The coffee cups were very small. We had asked for a quiet room away from the street and that is exactly what we got. We heard no noise at all, I couldn't even tell if there were people in the room next door. We used the separate laundry room provided which was great. There is also a lounge area by the laundry where people staying in groups could be together with a bit more space than your room provides. The reception staff were very helpful, one was a kiwi so lovely to hear the kiwi accent.
The location was good, close to 2 train stations and 5min walk to Darling harbour. The street itself looked a little seedy, but it didn't bother us too much.
I would definitely consider staying here again as the price was very reasonable, when it was hard to get a good deal over the Easter period.

Room Tip: Ask for room away from street.

This place is next to an Oporto chicken shop. It permeates an air of sketchiness and the room I had was tiny. We’re talking hardly any space to swing a cat despite a decent-sized and comfortable bed. Trying to walk from the bed to the bathroom, there’s little floor space or anywhere to put your bags. There’s no desk and there was noise from the street outside. It is central and fairly cheap but I’d never stay here again. The staff are not friendly, the rooms too small and it is not a pleasant experience. Okay, the place is clean but that’s a minimum requirement. I was booked to stay here later in my trip on my return to Sydney. I booked elsewhere. Take from that what you will. Not recommended.

We booked this hotel on a mystery deal for a short stay in the city. great location.
nice but small shoe box sized room with the windows screwed shut.
We are both tall people and our feet hung off the end of the bed, the beds had possibly been sized down to fit across the room horizontally.
The bed was still comfy & clean though. we found the room a bit stuffy as the air conditioner was the only option & seemed to be struggling to produce any fresh air.
Water pressure wasn't great in the shower, had to wait a while for hot water to flow.
Everything in our room was generally clean & working though
BreakFree on Clarence is close to Darling Harbour, transport & walking distance to all the city attractions.
Conclusively, it was OK, the staff were pleasant, but for the price paid - even on mystery deals, there are better options.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a air conditioning unit that works

Very interesting design for a 2 bedroom family room. Web site stated that the 2 bedroom family room had an ensuite, well it only had 1 bathroom that they called an ensuite, so it is a 2 bedroom with 1 bathroom. For the main bedroom occupants to get to the bathroom they have to go through the 2nd room to get to the bathroom. We felt like the site was very mis leading talking about an ensuite. Bathroom ceiling had mould on it, only enough towels for 2 people not 4. When the room was serviced the beds were just pulled up and not made, the glasses that we used were not replaced. Would not recommend this property.

I stayed here for a flying overnight visit to watch the cricket. I arrived about 2.00pm, checked in and left immediately. The room was a single (with a single bed). Very small with an ensuite bathroom but when all you need is a bed for the night and somewhere to keep your things, its better than a private room in a hostel (which in Sydney costs just as much). Only complaint (and not the hotels fault) was that it was hard to flag down a cab from right out the front - you have to walk a little way.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent stay at Breakfree on Clarence. I'm pleased to know that the room and service met your standards.

Sorry to hear about your difficulty in finding a cab. There's generally a good flow of taxis on Clarence street but I see this wasn't the case for you. If we had known earlier, our reception team could have arranged one for you.

Thanks again and I do hope to see you at Breakfree on Clarence in the near future.

Regards,

Needed somewhere to stay for one night with my mum who is visiting from overseas. We wanted to spend a few days in the city and thought this looked like a good option. After reading previous reviews, we requested the 'highest floor possible' as my mum is a light sleeper. We were given a room on the top floor. It was quiet, the beds were comfy and a functional bathroom. Yes the room was small, but all we did was sleep in it, so it really didn't matter to us.
The location was fantastic. QVB and Darling Harbour were less than 5 minutes away, and Circular Quay and the Rocks less than 10. The staff were very friendly and helpful and leaving our bags with them either side of check in/check out was not a problem.
Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quiter
