“B&B doesn't come any better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

B&Bs can please us in a hundred different ways, but invariably, standing on a porch awaiting the doorbell's answer, we find ourselves hoping for the big winner -- a gracious greeting, knowledgeable host -- perhaps even a measure of concern over our arduous travels and upcoming plans -- and a knock-out decor with dazzling common spaces and a luxurious bedroom suite (preferably featuring the "bathroom of death").

Gary and Julie provide all this as well as the oft-noted killer breakfasts in a space ideally situated for exploring greater Sydney. They'll have you on the local buses and off to the Opera House or ferrying out to Manley just like the natives. And Glebe Point -- their small corner of the metropolis -- is trendy / inviting while still more residential than commercial. A dozen local eateries will appeal to any taste (and the Glebe Point Diner will shine in your memory unless you simply have no buttons to push).

After a three-day stay end of January 2014, we'd never think of staying anywhere else on a future visit to Sydney.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Rozelle Room -- features a window wall with slider out to its own deck with lovely...

We chose this B&B for its breakfast, which looked delicious already on their website. Now we recommend it for its breakfast and for everything else - Gary and Julie made us feel at home in this beautiful city.
To avoid boredom after his retirement Gary has turned their cosy small house into a homestay. The two double bedrooms on the first floor outrange many hotels with their comfortable navy design and their selected pieces of art on the wall. Not to speak of the spacious bathroom that belongs to the bigger room "Rozelle" (we tried both rooms) with its shiny armatures. And there are not a lot of hotels that offer organic body-lotion!
Breakfast is served on the terrace in their beautiful Japanese garden, with the parakeets screaming in the trees above - and what a breakfast Gary makes! We were never able to do justice to the whole selection of two homemade mueslis, pancakes, banana bread, sweet fruits... and the coffee was just delicious!
For visiting Sydney the place is perfect as the city center is only 30 minutes walk away. You can also reach it by bus which leaves about every 5 minutes only 3 minutes from the doorstep. Sometimes Gary also took us with him when he took the car to the city.
Glebe Point Road, the main road of the neighborhood, offers a place to dine for everyone, from Tapas Bars to Thai Cuisine, so we never went to bed hungry after our days out in the city. We dined best when we followed Julie's advice. On our first day she marked places to see and restaurants to choose on a small map, and we were never disappointed. With her help we had the best seafood on our whole journey (Doyle's Restaurant!), and we found bustling local streets for our walks we would never have found ourselves.
Coming "home" there was always someone to ask how we were and if we needed anything. Julie and Gary, we must admit: At your homestay we felt like visiting some very nice relatives in Sydney instead of being at a bed and breakfast! Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality.

My husband James and I stayed at the Forsyth in December 2013. Firstly, Gary and Julie were the nicest hosts one could wish for, extremely kind and helpful. As others have mentioned,Gary's breakfasts (the pancakes with fresh fruit in particular), were a great way to start the day and the coffee was not bad either! Our room had a balcony with distant views of the city and Sydney bridge. We sat there in the mornings and before going out to dinner, watching lorikeets and the lights come on in the city. Our room was very nice and comfortable and we liked the art work throughout the house. We recommend it very highly indeed and hope to return soon.

We stayed at Forsyth for four nights and the whole experience surpassed our expectations. The house itself boasts character and charm and the room, facilities and breakfast were simply first class. Both Gary and Julie were great hosts and readily provided valuable assistance in recommending travel and dining options. Great location with an array of restaurants in walking distance and easy access to the city.
This will be our first port of call on future visits to Sydney. The high standards coupled with the warm welcome from Gary and Julie makes it an ideal choice. Highly recommended, without any reservations whatsoever. Gerry & Maralyn. Norwich UK

Stayed with Gary and Julie for 5 nights on our recent trip to Australia and can only echo the previous positive comments made by other reviewers.

Gary and Julie set out to ensure that their guests make the most of their time in Sydney and really want them to enjoy their stay in the city. On (and actually in some cases before) arrival they provide excellent information on transportation, eating places and places to visit so that within an hour of arrival you are ready to hit the ground running.

Accommodation is first class ( we stayed in the larger of the 2 rooms which had a nice balcony ) and the breakfasts consist of healthy and wholesome fare and Gary is always most willing to accommodate individual preferences.

Glebe itself is a little out of the centre of Sydney but has relatively good transport links to the ever popular Rocks and Circular Quay. The big advantage of Glebe however is the range of absolutely excellent restaurants literally on the doorstep of the B&B.

All in all Gary and Julie fully merit their No 1 rating on Tripadvisor and while I would fully recommend this B&B, if you want to stay here you will need to book early as I'm sure lots of people will have the same idea.

My fiancée and I have stayed at luxury hotels and B&Bs all over the world. What an incredible surprise to find a fantastic B&B in Glebe, a suburb of Sydney. Gary, the owner, was on top of everything even before we arrived. This made our arrival, stay and departure easier than if I had brought a personal assistant with me. Our room was large, had a wonderful deck, was clean and quiet. Gary and Julie are the consummate hosts. Their advice about transportation, sightseeing, dining and travel were incredibly helpful. Breakfast was prepared on our schedule and was fresh, healthy and perfectly prepared and presented. The public areas have wonderful art that Gary and Julie have collected. One morning, Gary invited us to join him for coffee with a wonderful artist. This was one of the highlights of our stay in Sydney for Barbara and me. Some additional examples of Gary's attention to detail and the guest experience...when we arrived from Hunter Valley on our second day in Australia, Gary insisted on following me to the rental car return and driving me back to Forsyth. We spent the last days in Australia in Melbourne. When we told Gary and Julie we were taking all of our luggage to Melbourne, they suggested that we just pack for three days and that he would store our luggage and deliver it to Sydney airport when we returned. I have no hesitation recommending Forsyth to anyone traveling to Sydney. We purchased two diaries while in Melbourne, one for each room and made the initial entry. I hope those who follow will add their comments. The value, location, hospitality, and friendship made this trip special. We stayed at the Park Hyatt in Melbourne, a very fancy large, art deco five star hotel. It felt cold and sterile compared to Forsyth. Bravo Gary and Julie!!! Don't change anything. It was perfect!

Room Tip: There are only two rooms. We stayed in the Roselle Room. I understand it is the larger of the two...

It was our first trip to Sydney and we only had six days so it was important to find just the right place that was convenient to public transportation which led to Sydney sights, reasonable (by Sydney standards) and a pleasant place to stay. Forsyth B & B met and exceeded all of these. The owners are delightful, helpful, provide wonderful breakfasts and make you feel right at home. Our room and bathroom were very clean, modern, comfortable, well lit and plenty of space. We were a block and a half from the bus line and close to restaurants and small stores. The owners provided us with a map and information on the local sights and restaurants. They were really helpful getting any additional info we needed to make our daily sightseeing go smoothly. We look forward to a return visit to Sydney and the Forsyth B & B again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Either room at Forsyth is fine. We did stay in the smaller of the two rooms available because the la...
