we spent a fortnight at the woolbrokers in Sydney. The major plus points are the location - it's literally round the corner from darling harbour and a 1/3rd of the price that the novotel and Ibis charge. More importantly I've never received such warm and friendly hospitality in a hotel anywhere ever. Nothing is too much trouble for Sandy and Caroline who run the place. Just a few examples of this - we were upgraded free of charge to a room with a larger bed because we were both tall, they gave us food on a few occasions without charge, lent us DVDs to watch, helped find a dentist for my husband when his filling fell out, helped us with car bookings, taxis to the airport and suggestions on places to go. They were simply superb and if they are still running this place next we go to Sydney we'll definitely be staying there.
Other plus points about the hotel - the standard breakfast is a bit basic and repetitive but you can order enormous yummy cooked breakfasts, there's a laundry in the hotel and ironing boards and irons dotted around which came in handy and an internet terminal. The shared toilets and bathrooms are kept clean and overall it's a tight run ship.
The decor isn't brilliant but it's clean and hey you are paying $89 a night and the location is fantastic. you are near a monorail, a tram stop, darling harbour is 2 seconds away, there's good restaurants and shops nearby in either direction and outside of the hotel and up the stairs is a walkway that brings you out into the centre of Sydney.
what more can I say, I loved the place. A few 5 star hotels I know would do well to come and take lessons in customer service from these guys.
