Top spot in the heart of paddington, this renovated old style hotel had small but functional rooms with comfy beds. Only stayed 1 night but will come again.

Returned this weekend to Arts Hotel, having stayed there over New Year 2002-2003 and was not disappointed.
A comfortable bed with spotlessly clean sheets, equally clean shower room, flat screen TV with BBC UK channel - a wonderful surprise for a soap opera-deprived pom living in Singapore. AC worked well and quietly.
Good breakfast complete with fresh fruit and cooked to order fry-up.
A big thank you to Frederick and his colleagues on the front desk, who were both friendly and professional.
The only slight negative for me was that the wifi connection was not great... I had paid extra for a garden room specifically as I needed round-the-clock connectivity for work, business and personal reasons but the room I had was a long way from the router. The signal appeared to be much stronger nearer the lift.
I would not hesitate to return when am next in Sydney. The Arts Hotel is great value, safe and walking distance from Paddington's shopping, cafes and the CBD.

Room Tip: A garden room away from the lift/stairwell if you want a peaceful night's sleep.

A fairly typical 3 star hotel. Not expensive and in a fairly central area. Oxford Street is a great shopping and cafe street that starts in the city and puts you well on the way to Bondi beach....if you are from overseas you should know you can't walk to the beach but a bus or taxi is an easy option.
The hotel staff were very pleasant and professional for what is essentially a small hotel.
No luxuries or fancy extras but a comfortable clean room, would have no hesitation staying here again.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms were quite nice.

We had a three-bed room, no pink floral bedspreads(!), small balcony to stand on to watch the street go by. Clean, modern room with plenty of space for the 3 of us. Tea and coffee making in the room, wi-fi worked in our room, good sized tele. Bathroom updated, looks good & works well - plenty of hot water. Breakfast available, a good brekkie with lots of choice. Nice, quiet courtyard with a POOL! And what a spot! Catch the bus to Watson's Bay for fish & chips (and a beer/wine) at Doyle's Take Away, then catch the ferry back to Circular Quay. Walk to Kings Cross. And the hotel is a 10 min walk to Paddington Markets.

As an Australian based in London I am constantly travelling back and forward visiting family. I choose to stay in this hotel over all of the others, including the high end luxury chains simply because it offers a superb service which the other hotels don’t seem to have these days, regardless of star rating!
On the few occasions I needed to speak to reception staff (about transport options and advice) they were very helpful. I actually went down at a peak time and although they were extremely busy checking people in and out, they gave every guest a personal and patient approach efficiently offering all they could do to help or assist- this included juggling a restaurant reservation, calling/hailing taxi’s, even going out to retrieve luggage for arriving guests in the pouring rain before they even got out of the car! Although very busy, their ingenuity was not compromised. The three staff on duty not once batted an eyelid or huffed/puffed, they were truly lovely.
The free wifi worked in the room so no complaints there, obviously in peak times it was a little slow. The room itself was spotlessly clean, linen included. The bathroom granted is no spa, however pristine and the shower itself large enough for two!.. plenty of fresh towels. No window in the bathroom, although a powerful and working air vent. The room is plain, basic, no decorative trimmings, although spacious enough for two people. Each bed (Twin room) had it’s own reading light, as did the desk and of course reverse cycle air conditioning worked a treat on the hot days! No room service is offered, there is tea/coffee making facilities in the room also plenty of chic cafes/restaurants within a short walking distance (who offer take away!). It is a perfect location for Sydney because it is in equal distance to Bondi Beach or the CBD - you have the best of both worlds. $10 taxi ride to each (depending on traffic). Busses in either direction leave literally just outside the front door. There are plenty of pubs/bars/restaurants plus designer boutiques, book shops within walking distance, including the markets on a Saturday. The pool/garden area is very pleasant, quiet, relaxing place to sit in the cooler evenings. The rooms facing the garden were vey quiet too and as a light sleeper especially in a big city I appreciated this! As I left my room housekeeping arrived in the hallway, and although I had a ‘no entry’ sign on my door handle the Japanese man was very smiley and accommodating asking me as I left if I needed anything extra like towels or did I need the bins emptied. All in all a great little five star service in the heart of what is now a very expensive city .. I have already booked another 7night stay for June!

Room Tip: Go for a room overlooking the garden/pool area as it's quiet. Free parking if you have a car too...

Lovely Paddington hotel walk to Surety Hills restaurants, catch buss across street to Bonding beach, quick bus ride to ferry for Manly beach. Very walkable, pleasant environment.

Our room was comfortable, interesting shape. We got garden room at higher price for in room wifi that never worked during our stay (boo) I recommend paying lower price get room facing the laneway +for quiet).

Sydney is expensive, but I think this was good value.

You know you've stepped back into the 80s, but someone has tried to hide it with a few modern pieces in the foyer, but when you hit the room and the bed spread is pink floral. The rooms were clean, but oh so small, and the Oxford Street aspect was well on boring side. I really felt like I'd paid for a hotel, but was staying in a flash-packers! Two people, a mardi-gras weekend in a twin room - we were never bound to spend too much time in the room. The balcony doors had not even been finished, you could see bare wood between the two doors - very shabby.

On day two I went for the included breakfast, which was a Continental Buffet, it was nice, till they tried to charge me for it on checkout. Staff gruffly solved the hiccup.

Look if you get a good rate and are in Sydney, then this is the place for you, but I thought it was over priced for the product on offer.
