“Used to be better!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

This used to be an interesting museum with a good variety of exhibits. This time around the museum was just very average and not interesting enough for me to recommend for return again.

“Who would have thought Aussies liked the water?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

I’ve always found that museums usually cater to either the static display crowd or hand-on. This is one of those that has a little of both…“inside stuff” for the static displays and “outside stuff” for the hands-on. So, depending on your available time and preference, you may choose to do one, the other, or both. If you have kids, they’ll probably want to visit the ships over the displays.

I only had a few hours to spend at the museum, which I found was insufficient to really appreciate all of the exhibits. I choose to visit the static displays inside and missed out on the ships moored outside, which are an additional charge to the ticket price. (I’ve already been on a few submarines and destroyers – which was another deciding factor - plus, all the activities combined starts to get a little pricey.) However, on an extremely hot day, this plan gets you out of the sun for at least a few hours.

The static displays are well done and maintained, so you don’t have to worry about broken television displays or exhibit glass covered in finger prints. As you can probably imagine, Australia has an extremely rich maritime history and the displays cover everything from early settlers and aboriginals to modern military and the Olympics. See if you can find the bong – err, water pipe for harmless tobacco - that’s on display!

Of course, the museum has a gift shop, which I found was above average and went beyond the usual science trinkets museums tend to normally stock.

“Interesting Endeavour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

A tour of the Endeavour is not to be missed, the replica ship has volunteers on board who tell you all about the ship, it's crew, how they lived and the voyage. They brought the ship alive. I also really enjoyed being able to tour the submarine and destroyer. Leave a good three hours or more for a visit here.
