“A bit out of the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

Stayed here as our son was returning to Sydney after a tour of duty in the navy. We had one of the loft rooms which was good. Warning to those less mobile - there are stairs in these rooms to get to the bedroom. Overlooked the city which was nice at night. We were able to walk into town (15 minutes) but again, not a trip for the sedintary.

I understand that the Hotel has changed hands since our stay but my parents recently stayed and were equally as happy.

Sorry it has taken so long to review this - I thought I had.

An amazing hotel with some minor structural problems (they did not ruin the stay) The ppol was the best. I swim a lot and I always pick a place with a pool. This was the BEST I have ever been in and went for a swim before and after dinner. The location was great. Out of the city, but close enough for a great view. So many places to eat nearby and a nice post dinner walk. I loved the aspects of history in the building. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: There is only one bus that goes nearby so be prepared to walk or get a taxi.

What a fantastic property, with so much history, this property certainly takes you back in time with gentle reminders of days gone by. The staff were truly caring and couldn't do enough for you. Definitely one of THE best breakfasts i have had in a long time for a hotel buffet, and I've had a few, The Blue certainly delivers one every level. From the comfort of the oversized beds to the super sized bathtubs, i was truly impressed. Walking along side all the restaurants along the pier, the place was a buzz, even on a Tuesday night! I went for a morning stroll around the area and seeing all the old pubs and quaint little houses made me smile. With the property undergoing a refurb in the second half of the year, (i don't know why, its gorgeous as it is) I cannot wait to see what is in store and experience this fabulous property again next time I'm in town. Highly recommended!!!

Room Tip: either the city skyline or the garden island view, i stayed in a loft suite, both views are exceptio...

Dear Debstar C,

Wow! What a fantastic review. Thank you so very much. The team will be well and truly chuffed to read this!

We agree that the Hotel is beautiful as it is, but we are going to give her a make-over to make her even hotter!

I hope you will come back and visit us again after this happens and let us know what you think of the transformation.

Sincerely,

Adam Taloni

It was a first time stay at Blue and we loved it. We had a two night stay in a loft room with a marina view. Lovely décor, unique and very spacious. The bed was comfortable and our nights sleep was restful. Lovely view from the room and we enjoyed the night view from the sky lights in the ceiling. Staff were all helpful and professional. While we usually stay in the city, we were a tad concerned about the walk to the city as we had meetings and dinner reservations over the two day stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 -10 min leisurely daily walks and were able to see a side the city we hadn't explored on previous visits ( though it could be a problem in wet weather ). We enjoyed the buffet breakfast which was fresh and a good selection of food, the service was friendly and prompt. We would definitely stay again. The only problems we experienced was the bar was closed throughout our stay, we would have enjoyed a pre/post- dinner drink and a drink on our arrival. The bar looked really cool and we would have loved to experience it. We usually enjoy the food and beverage at hotel stays. We had some problems with the electronic key, it needed to be reset three times for us to access the lift and room, while it wasn't a major problem, there was an inconvenience on three separate occasions and trips back and forth to concierge. Thank you Blue for a lovely stay in a beautiful part of the world. We will look forward to visiting again.

Dear Nina P,

Thank you so much for your feedback. Firstly I must apologise for the key issues. This is not a common occurrence, and I will ensure our Maintenance Manager is onto this.

Our bar is currently open from 5pm on Thursday to Saturday nights. On all other nights the Living Room at reception is open from 5pm to offer you drinks and snacks if that suits you on the 'off' nights. Both areas also offer complimentary Wi Fi.

The walk from Blue to the city is fabulous. Not too long, but enough to relax your senses before a big day at work.

I really appreciate you taking the time to provide this feedback and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Sincerely,

Adam Taloni

I had a lovely stay here with my wife. Really nothing to fault it. A very cool building with some a nice bar etc in the atrium. Good (if slightly unusually laid out) rooms, and a good standard of cleanliness.
It's one of a small handful of hotels where you actually stay right on the harbour's edge, which makes it a little different to most of the large five star establishments in the CBD.
Harry's Café de Wheels is also right outside. Which is nice.

Dear DrPete1973,

It was lovely to read your review of your recent Blue experience with us recently.

The wharf certainly is a charming old girl. Not bad for 100 years old this year!

What will be more amazing will be after our extensive refurbishment later in the year. Stay tuned for details.

I hope to see you again soon.

Sincerely,

Adam Taloni

We stay at Blu regularly for weekends in town. Its a brilliant location...., walk into town or the art gallery, easy to get to restaurants in the east subs and how could you fault the hotel. Great service and wonderful how its been integrated into the old wharf and its history. Only thing is that we stayed in 304 which on the street front and it was a bit noisy but no big deal

My parents stayed here over the Easter weekend in one of the 'Luxury Marina View Loft Suites'. The hotel was GREAT!

Perfect location for those not wanting to stay in the noisy CBD and for those that love the water, boats and views of the city skyline/ botanical gardens. It was walking distance to the opera in the gardens, local cafes and a selection of fine dining restaurants on the wharf (via direct hotel access - great when raining!)

The loft suite was ideal for two people. A good sized ground level lounge and a very adequate upstairs loft bedroom, with second sitting area/TV and large ensuite.

The staff at Blue were friendly and polite, couldn't fault them.

Breakfast ($30pp) in the Blue Cafe was lovely. A large selection of good quality food and perfect cafe-style coffee - they also did takeaway coffee so you could end breakfast and leave with a coffee - nice touch!

I read the hotel is due for a big refurbishment soon but overall the hotel is very tidy, amazing historical building, great location, lovely staff...once it's had its makeover, I imagine this will be an incredible place to stay!

Thanks to the Blue staff for looking after my parents so well :)

Room Tip: Marina Views for a lovely view of boats and the SYD skyline.

Dear RB2013travels,

Thanks for choosing Blue for your parent's to stay at whilst they visited Sydney recently and also for the very kind review.

I am delighted to hear that they had a wonderful stay and enjoyed their Loft Suite and breakfast, among other features at the hotel.

We indeed are getting ready for a property upgrade and hope that you and your parents visit us afterwards to see how amazing the hotel will become.

Sincerely,

Adam Taloni
