4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for two nights having stayed with friends in Sydney. Great place to relax and unwind. Very helpful staff. Strange licensing laws due to the fact there are residential apartments also in the complex so no late night cap. But this is only two days a week.

Great choice of restaurants on the same pier with the ability to back charge to the hotel. A nice touch.

Russell Crowe lives at the end of the complex...

When we first walked into the hotel my wife and I had to stop to take in what we were seeing. The hotel was once an old wool shed which has been transformed into a really beautiful hotel that's quirky different. The ambiance as soon as you walk in to the reception area is fantastic, massive open area, low light and a dramatic bar & dining area. Our room was a loft room so the bedroom & bathroom were upstairs and above the lounge area, again something different. The room facilities were excellent, comfortable bed, well set out bathroom and very comfortable lounge area, as you would expect from a 5 star hotel on the edge of Sydney CBD. But the hotels point of difference is that it was once a huge old run down wool shed sitting on a wharf, that's been transformed into something really special.

The building is stunning, the preservation of the Wharf's history is obvious. The room was split level with 1.5 baths, but due to the bar the noise level at night was high. I would recommend it if you needed to be in the area (which we were), but something needs to happen to minimise the noise.

Travelling Overseas and still would like to have your Masala Omelette for breakfast made to perfection ?? Want to stay a stone's throw away from Russell Crowe's Residence ?? Want to hit the night spots and naughty Kings Cross ??

The Hotel is situated in the midst of all the action one can imagine at Sydney. Fantastic Rooms, views, F&B and awesome service.

BTW: I had accumulated points in India staying in various Taj Properties for months and used my points for the stay - ABSOLUTELY FREE !!

We stayed here over christmas and the New Year of 2012-13 and found it to be an excellent hotel. The staff are all very, very friendly and helpful. The manager, concierge, front-of-house, valets, room service and cleaning staff were always helpful and friendly - probably a reflection of the standards demanded by the Taj Group. Australia is not a particularly service-oriented place when it comes to hotels, but this hotel really does excel in this regard.
The hotel itself is very unusual in design, which is carried through to the design of the rooms. We had a split level loft suite, which was very comfortable and felt more like an apartment, but starting to look a bit dated - especially the bathrooms. The location is excellent for access to the shops in Potts Point, the botanical gardens and also sydney harbour, which is a 15 minute walk through the gardens. There are also some very nice waterfront restaurants next to the hotel and some nearby convenience stores.

Room Tip: The best rooms look over the waterfront towards the botanical gardens.

We stayed for one night on our return from Sydney. Check in staff very friendly. Room spacious and inviting with a great bath. We loved the location, we were able to walk into the city from the hotel and then onto Darlinghurst and near a lovely park as well. Breakfast had some good healthy options. We enjoyed our stay and we stayed on a Saturday night, but we were not disturbed by noise like other reviews - perhaps we were really tired! It is also convenient for some nice restaurants if you don't feel like going far.

This hotel was recommended by a friend and we were looking forward to our first weekend without kids in a long time. We requested an early check in as we were going to the races but unfortunately there was no room available. The front of house staff tried very hard to accommodate us offering an alternative room and to press our clothes.
When we arrived home at the end of the day we were very pleased to find a beautiful room with large timber beams visible, a view of the water and a sea breeze in the morning was lovely.
The location is just amazing, so close to the city and front of house staff really did go the extra mile for us.
My only critisicm is the quality of the toilet paper! Very unusual in my experience for a 5 star hotel to have such poor quality paper! We will definitely be back for a longer stay in the future but will be packing some Kleenex toilet paper!
