My wife and I most recently visited this attraction in March and again in April 2013 as a cruiseship-walk before dinner...and before lunch…and before drinks, although not necessarily in that order. In other words, this attraction is within easy walking distance of the ships, is free and is …great!
We particularly enjoy the sheer proximity to the city, with the contrast between the hustle of Circular Quay, The Opera House and the railway station being especially poignant on a balmy evening or early morning. The Sydney-siders are very blessed to have such a facility on their doorstep. The beauty of the gardens is amazing to be within a major world city within walking distance from the CBD and cruise terminal.
Attractions abound, including fantastic trees and all indigenous plants, usually well labelled and identified. The gardens also host a great botanically themed gift-shop with sensibly priced souvenirs. There is also a Mini Train for those with difficulty walking, although you are more likely to see a procession of joggers, walkers, dedicated and seemingly under-nourished marathon runners than overfed cruise passengers (like us) who rarely seem to get that far…go for it guys…this is iconic Aussieland…Good on yer mate!
