“Bondi: Depends on your point of view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2014

The biggest plus about Bondi Beach, in all honesty, is that it’s so absolutely accessible from a major city. There are numerous buses that go from Sydney to Bondi, and as an American for whom the Oceanside was at least a three hour, often tortuous drive, well, that’s a massive wow.

The minus? If you’re not a tat-wearing surfer- or skateboarding-dude, well, let’s just say if you are anything over the age of 35, you might feel…old, wizened, white haired. It’s just that Bondi is a beach for the young, or the young at heart.

Still – Bondi’s gorgeous. The beach and the surf...beautiful. But you may not find the cafe or restaurant culture that suits. So if you’re a tad older in spirit, then take the ferry to Manly.

“Good if you enjoy a beach with a buzz”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2014

Because of its world-wide fame I had expected something special about Bondi Beach however it was a bit of an anti-climax.

It’s all on a large scale - the beach has bleached sand and there are plenty of bleached blonde people on it but despite the numbers it didn’t look too crowded on the day we visited. As others have mentioned on TA, the area designated as safe swimming was relatively small and a bit more congested. There was no shortage of surfers and we saw one or two doing quick changes by their cars as if on a lunch break - maybe they were.

The promenade, similar in some ways to one you could see in an upmarket British resort (except there was sunshine here), stretched for miles but if you’re looking for somewhere to have a bite to eat most of the places are back up at the main road. There is an expanse of open grassland separating the two. Many people were having picnics there overlooking the scene. The bay is framed by mostly low-rise buildings which will no doubt be expensive to buy given the location.

It was nice enough to see, have a spot of lunch and a walk along the shore but I’d look for something on a smaller scale personally for a day on the beach.

We got there and back to the city centre on the Sydney Explorer bus however it wouldn’t be my choice of transport if returning.

We ran from the city to Bondi on City2Surf so it was exceptionally crowded.
It was a very beautiful and clean beach. Too bad we went during winter so it was a bit too cold to enjoy Bondi.
We went back to Bondi in the evening again for dinner. Would definitely come again.

“Iconic locale, also other great beaches nearby”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014

Who hasn't heard of Bondi beach? As a Sydney local I ask you if you are a visitor to our gorgeous city if maybe a better question is have you heard of these beaches? - Tamarama (glam small beach great surf) Bronte (family beach with great surf , cafes and park behind Clovelly (Beautiful family safe inlet ) or Coogee (large sweeping beach with green spaces, laid back culture and better afternoon sun)
All are close by and yet Bondi still gets the kudos with overseas visitors, local teens and skate-boaders. (fair enough)
Can feel a bit skanky in the evening along the beachfront at times
but still Bondi Beach with its bustling beachfront shops and cafes and happening vibe is still a great destination. It's just we have the positive problem of being spolt for choice. Lucky us locals, and now lucky you.

“World famous beach, nice town and cliff top walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014

We went to this famous beach on New Year’s Day, along with several thousand others! This was to be expected I suppose. Parking was hard to find, very expensive and the on street parking we found was only for a 2 hour maximum.

It’s a nice beach and is patrolled by a large number of life savers although only in a very small section between the flags. So on such a busy day there were literally hundreds of people in the water for a mere 20 metres stretch of beach.

Just back from the beach are shops and cafes a-plenty, it’s quite a nice suburb of Sydney. The walk along the cliff tops is well worth your trouble if you have the time. Depending on how far you go you may come across other smaller beaches too.
