“Just About Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

We stayed at Simpsons several days prior to cruising out of Sydney. We arrived before check-in time after a long flight from the eastern U.S. and were offered a place to store our luggage and the use of a shower. Rhee, also offered us breakfast which was a nice touch and appreciated. The property is in excellent condition and very clean. Our room was on the top floor which required us to lug 4 heavy bags up several flights of stairs. We had the dormer room which is large and well appointed. The shower in the en-suite bathroom was incredibly powerful and made showering a real treat. The daily breakfast was very good with plenty of choices and some really nice crumpets - a first for these Americans. Keith was helpful in giving us directions as well as things to do and places to see. The only quibble I had and it is a minor one is the weak, intermittent signal of the WIFI in our room. All in all this is a great place to stay in the city with a wonderful staff.

Room Tip: The dormer is spacious with very good A/C and a fantastic shower.

We appreciate those positive comments. Thankyou!

One disadvantage of our lovely old home is that there is no elevator, and the dormer-rooms are on the second-floor, up two flights of stairs!

However, when Damien or I are around, we are always happy to help with luggage.

The WiFi generally works pretty well throughout the building and there is a repeater on each floor, which occasionally need "re-booting". This is of course, a simple and quick thing to do whenever we notice it! Possibly that was the problem when these guests were here. Both the computer in the front lounge, and the WiFi are complimentary.

We are glad that these guests enjoyed our continental buffet breakfast. And those English crumpets are delicious, especially with butter and honey, and / or peanut butter (hugely fattening!

Reasonable location within walking distance of Sydney CBD through the Botanical Garden. In a nice area with cafes, restaurants, supermarket and launderette and access to public transport (bus and metro) quite close.

The house is lovely with a tastefully furnished sitting room. Rooms are large and comfortable. Breakfast was good. Free wifi was also good.

The owners were very helpfully and efficient. They gave good advice on what to see and do to make the best use of your time in Sydney.

We are glad that these English guests enjoyed us and our Potts Point area.

They are quite right that this is a convenient place to live or to visit, with all the neighbourhood conveniences, as well as a myriad of interesting restaurants and cafes.

And Marie and I, Ree the Manager, and Damien our morning helper, do enjoy giving advice on things to do, places to visit, etc., to help our guests get the best out of their time in Sydney.

We stayed at Simpsons for a week, on a two-week trip to Australia. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome by Ree, and she and Keith provided daily suggestions of places to go. This included a great walk around the Watsons Bay / Bondi area, which we would never have found on our own - they share their local knowledge with the greatest of pleasure.

The hotel itself is like staying in a small stately home. The theme is genteel charm and antiques rather than gleaming newness, which is a refreshing change from chain hotels. Our room was spacious, the bed was huge, access to free wifi, port and sherry in the lounge were all welcome additions, and the breakfasts were superb. Our only very minor complaint was the early morning bin collection from right outside our window, but I suspect you'd get that in most city hotels.

Thankyou for your kind comments.

There is no doubt that Sydney is blessed by a very scenic location and beautiful harbour. There are certainly a few out-of-the-way places tat we do like to recommend that otherewise many visitors would not get to see.

One is Australia's last Riverboat Postman, on the Hawkesbury River, about an hour's pleasant train journey north of Sydney, which a great tourist "secret".

These guests are correct that "Simpsons" does not have gleeming newness, but rather "olde worldew" charm, but with all the modern creature comforts to make your stay comfortable.

I spent a couple of days at Simpson's in Pott's Point before a cruise out of Sydney and LOVED it. Quiet, comfortable and tasteful B+B in a lovely neighborhood of unique cafes, shops and services. Breakfast in the sunroom always a great way to start the day, with loads of helpful information from Keith and Ree. This is a real gem and especially nice for a solo traveler.

Room Tip: There is no lift in this period home so if you have large suitcases you might request a ground floor...

We remember our nice Vancouver visitor.

Yes, we also think that "Simpsons" is perfect for the solo traveller, as we can more easily interact with our guests than one can in the anonynimity of large hotels.

Of course we understand that many guests prefer, or need, the facilities of modern chain hotels, but for those who would like to sample living in an attractive, interesting neighbourhood, rather than in the C.B.D., then Potts Point, and "Simpsons" might just suit you.

Our stay at Simpsons was very enjoyable. They catered for all our needs and were so accommodating with the children. They were helpful and happily gave us any information about Sydney or the surrounding area we needed to make our visit even more worthwhile. I would recommend anyone to stay at Simpsons. The rhubarb, apple and raspberry compote at breakfast was delicious!!

Glad that these guests enjoyed their stay with us, and I am please to say that their children were very well behaved. (as were their parents!!).

Again, we were able to point them in the right direction, especially for things of specific children interest, like the Aquarium, the WildLife World, Madame Tussauds, Taronga Zoo, ferry rides to the beaches of Manly and Watsons Bay, the Australian Natural History Museum and the Powerhouse Museum, the Maritime Museum (with its Russian Submarine and Australian warship to inspect), and of course the beautiful Botanic Gardens on the walk into town.

Sydney does have a lot to appeal to people of all ages, and we do enjoy making suggestions to our guests so that they can get the most out of their time in this lovely city.

I was in Sydney for business and absolutely loved this B&B. It was like being at home, but better.
I arrived in the late afternoon and was very warmly welcomed by Ree who showed me around and helped me with directions to the gym I wanted to go to. The room was comfortable with wifi, and even though the house was fully occupied, it was really quiet. I have several food allergies, but I had plenty of choices for breakfast - oh and taxis are abundant less than 1 block away. Overall I had a great stay in a lovely home. This is now my first hotel/B&B choice for when I travel to Sydney.

We do enjoy hearing that guests have enjoyed their stay, and that they want to come back.

We are pleased that we have a lot of regular guests.....it is always rewarding to hear back from a returning guest.....that is the very best recommendation!

We are also pleased that Lisa liked our complimentary buffet breakfast. Nothing lavish, but a good healthy start to the day, with many choices of juices, cereals. breads, fruits, cold collations, and best of all, Marie's very popular home-made rhubarb and raspberry compote!

And yes, a new and very popular gym has just opened up the road, to supplement the larger "Fitness First" chain at Kings Cross. Potts Point is a very convenient local neighbourhood, with most facilities readily on hand, including supermarkets, laundries, corner stores, phamacies, banks, etc. to name just a few, as well as a myriad of great cafes and restaurants.
