My fiancée and I just spent two nights staying at Simpson's. We loved every minute of it. We're from the Blue Mountains so it was more of a weekend escape than a sight-seeing holiday.
When we arrived right on 3pm [check in time] we were asked to wait in the lounge for a minute as they were just finishing with our room. The lounge is full of trinkets, books, artwork and squishy armchairs - my favourite things! After we were given the room key and a brief tour, we went back to explore the lounge some more, helping ourselves to the complimentary sherry and flipping through the books.
The room we stayed in was just a Deluxe Queen [I think], so we didn't expect many luxuries. But it was a generous size, with a couch, wall mounted flat screen television, and a little courtyard. Drinks in the mini-fridge were very reasonably priced, and tea & coffee making supplies are also provided. On the first night we were there, the bathroom light blew. Ree showed up with a half-ladder, but the ceilings were so high that she couldn't actually reach the fixture. We put a table lamp in the bathroom instead and didn't think much of it - then a few minutes later she returned with a complimentary bottle of champagne and two glasses for us. It was a lovely gesture for what was only a mild inconvenience.
Normally, hearing the phrase 'continental breakfast' conjures up images of cornflakes and cordial. So we were very pleasantly surprised with the lovely quality breads, with a selection of cheese, meats, fruit, yoghurt, cereal and juice. We were also provided with plunger coffee or tea in pots if we wanted any. A range of newspapers were provided, as well as a large stand filled with brochures. We overheard Ree giving advice to other guests about attractions and sight-seeing and she seemed very knowledgeable. She also greeted us by name whenever we saw her.
Staying at Simpson's was just a wonderful experience for us - but I wouldn't recommend it for everybody. If you prefer things like modern, minimalist décor, swimming pools, gyms, and 24hr reception desks - this probably isn't for you.

We are very pleased that these guests enjoyed their stay with us, and the sophisticated Potts Point neighbourhood.

We are also glad that they commented upon our continenatal breakfast, which the majority of our guests really enjoy, with its wide array of healthy choices, various breads, fruits, and deli items.
These guests are correct that "Simpsons" is not for everyone, and those who prefer modern, sleek decor may prefer the offerings of the larger chain hotels, which generally have greater facilities. However, for those who like "olde world' decor and comforts (don't you hate that phrase!!), with more personal service, then "Simpsons" might suit.
