We did the North Head walk, which was excellent, but could benefit from better signposting. It's a beautiful walk, with bush sections that make you feel that you're miles from the city. The view from Fairfax point takes your breath away - the ultimate harbour view - and the walk features some lovely secluded beaches. The only dull section was around the parade ground, but this lasted only around ten minutes. It's a long walk - it took three and a half hours - but is suitable for those of average fitness. The friendly staff at the tourist information office opposite the Manly ferry terminal gave us useful advice and maps.
