Overall a very good trip. We went to Sydney partly for some sightseeing and partly for work.
Plus points: The hotel is very central, you can walk pretty much anywhere in the CBD area within about 15 minutes. It's also less than 10 minutes to the main bus routes running alongside Hyde Park, or to the metro station at the Town Hall.
The staff were very helpful, check-in took 5 minutes, although we did see several tour parties checking in during our stay, so you could be unlucky if you arrived at the wrong time.
The concierge was great, he provided some very helpful suggestions regarding excusions and the one we booked was one of the highlights of our holiday. Local knowledge goes a long way.
For the budget traveller, there is a lovely coffee shop on the ground floor which is great for breakfast if you don't fancy going overboard on the $32 breakfast buffet .
Everything in the room worked, looked pretty new and was extremely clean.
Late check-out was complimentary and there is a secure storage area for luggage if you have an evening flight etc.
The room safe was big enough to hold my work laptop (plus everything else) which was extremely convenient given I was only planning to work one day.
Minus points: Being a central hotel, there is no harbour view, or in fact any view. If you are only in Sydney for a night, treat yourself to something by the water.
Internet access. Something like $25 a day, which really puts me off returning as you often need access if you are trying to research excursions, restaurants etc whilst away. I don't have a problem paying for access, but something reasonable like $5 a day perhaps. Fortunately the big Apple shop round the corner has free wi-fi.
It's a 1920's hotel and it does show in places. I also felt the rooms were on the small side compared to modern hotels.
The air conditioning is noisy. At night on returning from a day trip, the room felt stuffy so we turned the unit on just to get some air. It was hot so we left it on over night and the noise woke me up. I spoke to reception the next day and they sent a maintenance engineer up straight away who said that it was normal. It's just old I suppose.
