Awful, awful, awful. Rooms so small you couldn't move passed each other. Walk in "wardrobe" a pole sticking out the wall with a few coat hangers on. The TV didn't work and the sliding door didn't close properly. Entrance to the room was a concrete square with a rubber mat with holes in covering the concrete. The bathroom was so small you could use the toilet, have a shower and brush your teeth all at the same time..We also had the room with the fungus on the ceiling. When we told the owner we were leaving she insisted she "inspect" the room for damage. We said that's fine but at the same time we will get a health inspector out to check the room as well. Funny how she changed her tune...We paid Aus$ 185 per night @ CCM. We moved to a 4* hotel on George Street around the corner from the harbour and paid Aus$200 per night which included Breakfast. So in closing CCM is a health risk, rooms are minute and on top of that no lift.. This Motel I would rate on a par with a cheap back packers.

Room Tip: Don't choose any room. Avoid this Motel!

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights as it was the cheapest place I could find around Christmas time. I definitely recommend the City Crown Motel! We are two young adults on a budget and it fulfilled ALL of our needs.

Beds were comfy, there was a charming balcony with an ashtray (most places won't let you smoke), no "smell" whatsoever, nice bathroom, the Café below the motel was just a great extra (the coffee is to die for) and not to mention you can see they use fresh ingredients as they cook in front of you. The staff at the motel and café were genuinely great people. We received 2 free coffees and a free meal, they gave me a free hot chocolate when I was rushing to the airport AND they didn't charge us for a late check out. Free movies at the reception and the location is great. You can flag down a taxi in 2 minutes after stepping outside. The motel is situated about 25 minutes walking from the Sydney Opera House. Crown Street has many, many, many places to shop and eat!

For all the people complaining they must be used to 5 star hotels..

This motel is a true gem.

Room Tip: Because of stairs, choose rooms between 14 and 19 for luggage purposes.

It was just an awful stay!!! We would have changed after having seen (and smelled!) the room but there was nothing available in Sydney so we were unfortunately forced to stay there...
By entering the room an absolutely disgusting smell took our breath away!!! There was a stain of mold (at least 30cm big!) on the ceiling which was really bad and I think the smelling was from this as well. Rest of the room was not really clean as well and I better won't talk about the bathroom...we only entered the shower with flip flops on!
We went down later on to ask for something against the stench and the owner was acting like he never heard of this problem before..big joke! After asking again and not going away he just grabs a tin right behind him which should help. It didn't really help but we had no choice..so we left the room a few mins later, keeping the tin and whilst we were walking past the reception the owner was asking for his tin back (we heard that others were also asking for it!). I would never stay there again even the location is great!
You'd better pay a little more and have a nice stay then booking this hostel and have to worrie about your health because of the mold and insects etc.!

Great location but a bit aged, it is a MOTEL! Deluxe rooms have terrace thats all the difference and you can watch the cigarette ash fall like snow from the balconies above. Handy to everything good range of restaurants, transport both bus an train. Tips, secure parking but limited 20 pn for this area its a bargain and top floor room so you can ash on those below.

We stayed here for two nights as it was in close proximity to the entertainment centre for the P!nk concert and the hotel had a shuttle service for the airport as we were going overseas.

We booked the shuttle (around $30 for 2 adults) we booked it for 6:45 am and got confirmation of this. On the day we were leaving we had staff knock on our door saying we needed to hurry up because the shuttle had been waiting out the front. It arrived at 6 am!! The old bloke at reception booked it for the wrong time.

The room was musty smelling, the toilet didn't like to flush often and the sliding door to the balcony was terribly hard to open. The house keeping woke us up at some ungodly hour and were making a racket from really early in the morning.

We paid $260 for two nights ( not including shuttle).

Wasn't anything flash at all but seeing as it was so close to everything and Sydney hotels are expensive it was adequate. Pricing is a tad steep and staff aren't very competent but these things happen.

We had some minor concerns that we, as elderly UK tourists, might be out of the normal range of this Motel's clientèle, but we need not have worried. The staff were very straightforward and exceptionally helpful. The room was (of course) not large but completely adequate and the outside balcony/deck was a charming addition. Car parking was tight but available - typically when we came to leave and found ourselves boxed-in everyone was great about it and we soon got away. The pavement cafe breakfasts were another delightful experience. Yes, there was a certain amount of noise and nocturnal coming and going in this busy place, both inside and outside the building, but that was a minor inconvenience compared to the overall experience.

Looking at a couple of the bad reviews I'm wondering if those reviewers actually stayed in the same City Crown Motel as us. We have stayed in this motel on numerous occasions when my partner has been receiving treatment at St Vincent's Private Hospital in Darlinghurst. The family and their staff who run this establishment are extremely pleasant and helpful; the rooms we have stayed in are comfortable and clean (never seen any unwelcome creepy crawlies); and good value for the money you pay. The location is excellent being within a few minutes walk to numerous eateries in Crown and Oxford Streets, and the Crown's Room 9 serves delicious meals as do the other adjoining restaurants. A bonus is the Thomas Dux supermarket next door to the motel which offers an array of top class grocery lines. The Crown is particularly handy for country people who must visit St Vincent's for treatment as the hospital is only a short walking distance away, and the motel proprietors are former country people themselves so have a great understanding of the difficulties some people from rural areas have in a city environment. I have not one single complaint about the Crown and its owners.
