“nice places and some to avoid”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Dont travel to the Rocks when you are starving. There are so many options, you need to take your time to make your choice. We arrived from a walk from Circular Quay and ended up in a wee walkway where we found a bakery/restaurant called Bakers Oven Cafe. Try to avoid this one as the food is just terrible and totally overpriced. They have no idea of food and service is shocking. I know, it is a tourist spot but as long as the money coming from tourists is good enough one should deliver. I had a cesar salad which had nothing in common with the real thing. Ordinary mixed salad out of the bag, big stripes of awefull ham and cutted pieces with dry chicken and a readymade cesar salad sauce out of the bottle - that's it. I can't decribe the taste, left it uneaten on the plate. Hubby had a Panini with chicken which I thought was a sensible choice sitting in a bakery. Well, he didn't finish it either, the bread was stale, the chicken dry and even the slice tomato on it had seen better days. It sets us back AU$ 35.50 which I would rather have donated then wasted on crap food.

“Fab”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

Just next to Darling Harbour is the Rocks which is the oldest part of Sydney and has the oldest pub, which is worth a visit. Here there are some exclusive shops and on a weekend there is a lovely market that fills a number of streets. Some reasonably priced cafes here too.

“Quaint area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Boasts what claims to be the oldest pub in Sydney, a Coroners Court that is now an arts & crafts gallery, renovated old warehouses, and lovely views out over the harbour. An enjoyable place for an afternoon's wandering, plenty of souvenir shops and some rather exclusive retail opportunities. If you can, visit Susannah's Place, a row of 19th century houses and a shop, recreated and turned in to a small museum. We were not there at the right time, but it looked fascinating and we had a good chat with one of the custodians. Details on the Sydney for Free website, which also offers a leaflet at the tourist offices.
