“Heart of the City and absolutely free!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

Darling Harbour is one of Sydney CBD's treasures, so many different places to walk, talk and eat and so much going on. Very easy to spend half the day just walking around and of course that costs you nothing if you can resist the aroma of fine coffee, or walk past the gourmet icecream shops. Great restaurants - of course! Some are fine dining and naturally quite expensive, but if that sort of eating is not on your budget, there are so many alternatives. Many of the eateries have outside dining and display their menus out on the footpath, so very easy to choose. Various attractions for the kids, Tumbalong Park - often used for cultural and sporting events, the harbour itself with its water taxis, ferries, and other boating activities. I recommend this venue for Australia Day but get there early as it will be standing room only for the fireworks displays.

“Well Worth the Walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

A stones throw from the bustle of the downtown core is this hive of activity. Situated on a horseshoe-shaped bay, this is a pleasant walk and a great spot to see the Sydney skyline from a completely different angle. It is a 15 minute walk from the heart of the city. The biggest movie screen in the southern hemisphere is found here too at the IMAX theatre. Many options are available for every craving of the food and beverage kind. From simple take-away gelato to towering seafood platters, it is all here! The National Maritime Museum is located at one end and it too is well worth a visit (entry fee). There are Naval vessels moored there, from antiquated replica tall ships to stealth submarines and the historical tour inside is fascinating. To cross from one side to the other by foot, the walker is treated to not only great views but also a short stroll, over one of the last operating 'pivot-bridges' in the country. The bridge periodically swivels to afford ships with tall masts entry to the refuge of this little harbour. The best value for food is found in the food-court inside the 2 level mini-mall located beside the convention centre entry doors. This is a great spot for lazy fish & chips, a high-end sit down dinner, a cold beer, a pleasant coffee or take in a movie. Great walk from the main hotels. Well worth the easy effort. There are countless shops to pick up everything from beautiful photographs to authentic Australian keepsakes. Highly recommend.
