“A monument of learning.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

In todays paper-free environment and internet wonderland, its curiously grounding to take the old-fashioned route and visit a library.
There is nothing as satsfying as actually toucjing pages and rifling through shelves, although much of the library stock is held in the stacks beneath.
Its worth going just to inhale the smell of all those tomes...Brings back memories ....

“Lovely building with grand old rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

The State Library is a beautiful building and is packed with classical, old-library shelves packed with books of all sizes, shapes and colours. For the tourist, the attraction would be a nice quiet place to sit and relax, and the free WIFI that is available through the Library. Be aware that the Mitchell room does not allow large bags (although women's handbags are allowed?) and that storage is charged. As a place to hang out and connect with the world, the café at the Library was excellent – it is called Café Trim and is reviewed separately. The State Library is worth a visit in its own right, and is a handy resource for tourists who want to connect with home.

Lovely 19th Cent building with modern extension and terrific study and reference section as well as exhibition galleries and a nice cafe. One of Sydney's gems.
