THIS. THIS was the hotel with the BEST beds.
See my other reviews on Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour (disappointing) and Four Seasons Sydney (the pillows gave me a neckache) which were all part of the same trip.
The check-in was smooth. And we got a nice big quiet Tower King room on the 25th floor. The Heavenly Bed was indeed fantastic. The pillows were great and gave us such a good sleep that I had absolutely no problem with my hubby’s snoring. The toiletries were good except for the shampoo (I have a sensitive scalp) and the rainshower was terrific. You know how you’d hate to bathe in winter? Well, I wanted to spend more time in the shower! And there was also a separate detachable showerhead if I didn’t plan to wash my hair. The toilet bowl was in its own stall so everything was out of sight. Neat. The tub looked spacious and plenty of glass so the toilet looked bigger.
The only problem was the automatic blind which screens the bathroom from the bedroom. I prefer to leave the toilet light on in unfamiliar rooms and this meant that when we slept, there was some light shining into the bedroom through the toilet glass window. The blinds do not shield out light completely.
As a Starwood member, bottled mineral water is complimentary but HIDDEN in the closet. And what happened to bedroom slippers?
Location: Located in the CBD area. Shops close EARLY. 5 or 6pm except for Thursdays. Which meant that the food court below Myers closes early too! The hotel is less than 5min walk from David Jones, Myers, Dymocks book store, a huge pharmacy, Coles supermarket and boutiques of Jigsaw & Country Road. 10min away is QVB. 20min walk to Cockle Bay Wharf at Darling Harbour and 25min walk to Harbourside where you can get cheap internet access. About 35min walk to Star City or Sydney Fish Market or Bus 443 took us to Prymont Road/Street where we walked 5 min to Sydney Fish Market. Remember to buy your ticket from any nearby newsstand BEFORE boarding the bus. Costs AUD1.90 one way.
Breakfast was included in our prepaid rate. Mosaic opens only at 6.30am and there is a very good variety with smoked salmon with dill, lemon and red onions, sausages, bacon, eggs cooked to your liking, a variety of juices such as orange, pineapple, pink guava and energy booster drinks. Also, fruits, muffins, plenty of bread, pastries etc. The service was prompt and cheerful.
Oh, and do walk one floor down from the hotel lobby for an amazing thin crust pizza. But it wasn’t open on Sun night.. We had the prosciutto and arugula pizza and it was delicious. You can’t charge it to your hotel room though since it’s a separate entity. But it’s worth the lift ride and walk.
Now, all I’m thinking of is – ordering that Heavenly Bed for ourselves. We really miss it!
