My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a few days while passing through Sydney on vacation. Given our platinum status with Starwood (i.e., we have more than 80 stays last year), we were given the option of a flexible checkin time. Since we were coming into town on a redeye, we selected a 9am checkin. When we got to the hotel, we were a bit disappointed by the man who was assigned to help us at the front desk. He was not at the Platinum checkin desk; rather, we visited the first hotel representative available. We arrived around 8:30am and the room was not ready. Since it seemed as though the hotel was at full capacity the night before, I completely understood that the room wouldn't be ready 30 minutes early. However, he proceeded to tell us that the early checkin was a "Starwood thing" and not a "Westin Sydney" thing. He said housekeeping didn't even start until 9am so the "guaranteed checkin" that I had a printout of was not really his issue. He proceeded to tell us to call the Starwood 800 phone number and talk to them about it. Since we were traveling internationally, that didn't make a lot of sense as our cell phones didn't work. We eventually got everything sorted out and got into our room around 1pm. That was the "black eye" of this hotel experience. Everything else was wonderful. If given the opportunity, I would highly recommend getting access to their concierge lounge. They have a top notch breakfast and evening drinks available. Their breakfast was very nicely done, and the ladies who provided drinks and cleaned up the tables were very classy, hard working, and extremely professional. Our room was perfect. The hotel was obviously very recently renovated and the finishes in the room were perfect. The carpet, bedding and towels was all very high-end. The bathroom was large and there were plenty of towels, soaps, and lotions. The location was good, but there is a Marriott down the road that is actually more convenient to the harbor. However, you are still within walking distance of the tourist spots at this hotel. I give this hotel top marks since I can't allow one unprofessional staff member impact what otherwise was a flawless experience.
