“Enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

Very enjoyable! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and fresh. The hotel is in a fantastic position for what we were doing, but great position overall for Sydney.
Parking probably a bit dear, even for the position; though we understand that space is limited.
Nice to have longer checkout of 11am.

a stunning hotel at a beautiful setting right on the water. It’s so close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge it's not funny (my room was pretty much under it), but also quiet so you can just chill out there and feel like you're not in the middle of a huge city. The rooms are divine. Special mention to the toiletries, too.

Room Tip: harbour view is of course best - but you pay for it

The Sebel Pier One is located right under the Harbour Bridge on Hickson Rd at the edge of The Rocks, Sydney. As the name implies, it is built on one of the old piers which jut out into Walsh Bay.
The hotel is very well maintained, both in the public areas and the rooms themselves.
We stayed in a suite, which has a separate lounge and bedroom.
The view from the suites is of Walsh Bay and the adjoining piers, with a side view out into the harbour - it isn't full harbour view (although I think the main suite would probably have this view).
The rooms themselves are well kept, bright and airy (although the windows can't be opened). Breakfast was a buffet, good quality and variety.
The only 'negative' (and a slight one at that) is that there is no parking at the hotel - you must use the valet service. If you want to park yourself, you need to use a public carpark which is about 600m away.
The hotel gives excellent access to The Rocks, which is about a 10 minute walk away around the harbour.
All in all, very happy with our stay here and would thoroughly recommend the hotel. By the way, the best price by far was on Webjet.

This hotel is in a gorgous location, down by the refurbished piers underneath the harbour bridge. Rooms have recently been refurbished in a seaside, whitewashed theme. Basic rooms are cramped and dark, it is worth upgrading to the much larger rooms on the harbour side. Check in was a poor experience, with long lines and unfriendly staff. I waited a long time for my car to be delivered from valet, even though I had phoned ahead and given 15 minutes notice the concierge did not leave to get the car until after I had checked out. He then found it was parked in by other cars so more waiting. Breakfast coffee (from a self serve machine) wa sterrible.

Room Tip: Upgrade from the basic room, it will make such a difference to your experience.

This hotel is in a great location right on the water next to the Harbour Bridge, and Circular Quay and the Rocks are a short 5-10 minute stroll away. Darling Harbour is also not too far (probably around 20-30 mins walk) and the walk is nice as you can walk down through Barangaroo along the water. The hotel itself is well presented and has a great seating area outside on the pier to have drinks. The bar itself seemed very small for a hotel of this size and with plenty of wedding guests around, and only 2 bar staff serving there was always going to be a bit of a wait. The bar also appeared very messy and unkept, with rubbish bins etc on full view and should be the first area that they should consider for an upgrade.
The first room we got allocated was great. It was very clean, modern and spacious, however the air conditioning didn't work and the room temperature was stuck on 28 deg C. We then got offered a new room (and free breakfast) where the aircon was fine. Unfortunately the room was quite a bit smaller (still good compared to some hotels though), however, overall we were very happy. The hotel also had a probably with their key machine which meant all guests were having to be escorted to their rooms for the duration of the weekend. I guess I don't know the full story, but I would expect a hotel of this size and quality to have a back up plan for this type of scenario e.g spare machine or 24hr call out service? Anyway, the bed was extremely comfortable and the toiletries were very good quality (so the wife told me). I'm probably being really picky now but the TV was one of those annoying ones whereby you press a button and it reacts around a second or two later.....who would ever buy a tv like that?! If it was in my front room it would have had my size 11 boot through it long ago.
Overall it was a great weekend. We paid around $330 per night, which is pricey, but when you consider the location and the price of other hotels in the CBD it was acceptable and we would come back in the future. The Hyatt Circular Quay is just around the corner and I can virtually guarantee that you wouldn't get a room there for this price. Parking is valet only at $35 per day/night but there is plenty of metered parking in the street if required.

On arriving at 8:30am the concierge removed my bags from the taxi and advised to check if the room was ready knowing that checkin was at 14:00 I knew there was little chance. However my experience with Lucy at reception was the worst I have experienced. Lucy checked and blurted NO your room will not be ready until 2, I advised I had a function at 12:30 and if I could get in a little earlier would be great, Lucy replied No 2 o'clock but while you are here I will take your credit card to charge you for the room and $100 security deposit, I advised Lucy that the room was prepaid after checking she replied so it is, it's too early in the morning!

After leaving and returning at 10:45 I spoke with another lady (name unknown) advised her of the situation she checked advised the room was vacant had the cleaners go in and I was in by 12noon.

We had dinner at the hotel restaurant the food and service was amazing the waitress is a asset to the hotel its a shame she is on a working holiday and will be off soon.

The rooms are fantastic and beds comfortable..

Room Tip: Must have water view room
