“Excellent Service and Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

So glad we chose to stay at the Sir Stamford in March, 2013. Perfect location beside the Park, one block from the Opera House, Circular Quay restaurants, and the ferries, you can easily walk everywhere. Lovely, quiet, air conditioned rooms and very friendly, helpful staff. If staying several nights, join the Senator's Club and use the discounts vouchers. The continental breakfast is excellent, and dining is discounted for Senator's Club members. The best way to start the morning in Sydney. Highly recommend the Sir Stamford.

Dear Senators Club Member

Thank you for highlighting our location, style and service and giving Sir Stamford at Circular Quay a five star rating. Joining the Stamford Senators Club, prior to travel, does offer very good benefits - the full details are availble on our website. These include discounts off our best availble rates, upgrade vouchers and dining discounts that you mentioned. For travellers choosing to stay in other Australian cities and Auckland in New Zealand the Senators Card is a very good investment.

We had a most wonderful experience at Sir Stamford Circular Quay. Four of us enjoyed the clean, comfortable, gracious and charming property in a perfect location. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. From help with dining, sight seeing, ferries, shopping- all was handled with professionalism, kindness, warmth; in short, a genuine love of service, matching their suggestions to our needs and desires to perfection...Kudos to concierge Kieran and Stu- Best hospitality ever!
Sydney was lovelier due to the fine experience we had at Sir Stamford Circular Quay. Can't wait to come back!

Sydney has a number of hearts: the business heart in the shadows of Hunter Street; the transport heart at the frenetic Central Station; the entertainment heart near Chinatown in George Street and the shopping heart in the Pitt Street Mall. But the Sir Stamford is the calm heart and within 500-900 metres of each of the other hearts. It is within a stone's throw of Circular Quay, the Opera House, a short walk to George Street shopping and across the road from the Botanic Gardens. It is on beautiful Macquaire Street, one of the most historic streets in Sydney.

We booked our stay on the hotel's website as we found that the 'summer deal' there was better than other websites. We could choose either free parking or other benefits with the deal, but as we were driving into the city it was perfect. The website gave exact details of the check in procedure and we pulled into the curb outside the hotel, were greeted at the door, had our bags taken for us and given instructions to the carpark (we did not select valet parking - we were keeping costs down) which was literally around the corner. Back at the hotel our booking was ready. The staff were pleasant and greeted us every time. The lounge was set up for Christmas and was an elegant space to meet friends or sit and relax. I had requested a room with a view and we had a Juliet balcony that looked down onto Circular Quay. The furnishings, lamps, bedding, towels, bathrooms and bathroom were all of superior quality. We attended a formal event in the city, and found the clothes hanging, iron and generous bathroom mirrors very useful.
The best part of the stay was the early morning walk in the Botanic Gardens. It opens at 7am and we walked through the gardens and around to the Opera House before returning for breakfast. The standard breakfast was generous with a variety of food including cereals, toasts, meats and fruit. The honey was straight off the comb. If you want eggs you can order that from another menu. We were hungry after our walk and there was plenty of good food from the regular menu.
There is an extended hours 711 around the corner and a variety of restaurants at Circular Quay in easy walking distance.
So if you are coming to Sydney, try the calm heart at Sir Stamford.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of Circular Quay at the back of the hotel. The rooms may be overlooked by...

We stayed here for one night to see a show at the Opera House. We live an hours drive from Sydney and are regular weekend visitors to see the shows. First stay at this hotel which is easy walking distance to the Opera House, Circular Quay and The Rocks. Hotel presents well in its attempt to bring period charm, albeit a little dark for my tastes. The staff were helpful and unobtrusive. We had the basic king room and it was spacious, clean, and quiet throughout the sleeping hours. Very nice bathroom facilities. Bed was of good quality and linen was fresh. Very good value relative to other hotels in this area, though not cheap. Definitely recommend for short stays in this part of Sydney. We stayed on the 4th floor, nothing in the way of views (you need to go several floors higher) but we came to see the show and get a good nights sleep. Mission accomplished

Dear Valued Guests

Very pleased to hear Sir Stamford at Circular Quay fulfilled your specific requirements for night out near your Opera House Show. A good nights sleep is key to every hotel experience and we are pleased that this mission accommplished with such a good review.

We have many guests arriving for the Carmen the Opera on the Harbout that is starting in 2 days time - and several guests have been walked trhough the gardens to the Admiralty Steps to listen to the rehearsals in the afternoons.

Now do I recommend this hotel. ABSOLUTELY YES YES; Go see for your self - you will love it !
I wish I knew about this place for my honeymoon when we got married. But I probably would not have been able to afford it back then. ? Did I mention it is a little pricey, BUT IT IS WELL WORTH IT !!

Dear Valued Guests

We did love your title - Sir Stamford is a hiidden palace in the city - and we are so pleased you have discovered our secrets with your Mum on a specail weekend away. Our style is quite romantic, great for honeymoons - and of course we are ideal for elegant weddings and there are prices to suit a variety of budgets. Our top room the Presidential Suite is value in the Sydney market for such size and our location - there's even a Steinway Baby Grand piano in the drawing room. - We welcome enquiries prices vary with demand and time of year.

Our decor suits our hisotric location and our heritage site - being NSW's original Health Department buidling in the 1860's and is very different from other city hotels.

Twin Rooms are spacious for friends and family sharing (2 double beds) and we are delighted to hear your feedback. For the best value prices we recommend guest take advantage of the advance pre-purchase options available on our website.

Thank you again

Good value, old style hotel may be a tad dark and old fashioned for some. Room on 3rd floor , at the front, still quiet and HUGE....did I say the rooms were big....we have stayed in many Sydney hotels and these would be the largest rooms so far.
The wall coverings in the room are showing their age but bot too bad.service was good the only issue I had was with the bar manager,I was served a beer that was out of date, didn't notice till half way through, didn't make A big issue of it but when asked of the bar staff, the manager said it was still fresh......why do beers have use by date???
Would I stay here again...YES

Dear Valued Sydney Guest

Thank you for pointing out unique differences in our hotel, as we agree the hotel is so different and might not appeal to all - the chandeliers, the antiques and the fine art collections may not be to everyones taste. However most guests do so enjoy (like you) and return again for the larger rooms ... a real luxury, especially for guests staying more than one night.

We will ensure our audit systems go into overdrive and double check all bar stock for expired product. Again thank you for your review and your constructive comments - return again soon.

Really great location - and you pay for it of course - this is the expensive end of town near Circular Quay. The hotel is an elegant older style but not at all shabby. The room was large, clean, comfortable and quiet. Amenities and linen were great. All staff were friendly and efficient. We didn't eat in because there's so much to choose from in the area.

Dear Valued NSW Guest

Yes our location at Circular Quay is definitely worth that little extra for guests who want the convenience and peace of mind - however there are often good value discounts for advance pre paid bookings. There is a very good Easter special that can be found on our website that offers special rates for much of the Easter month. Or simply call our rreservations direct.

With only 105 suites and rooms it is worth planning ahead to secure a booking and experience our elegant style, and enjoy a break away that is so different from a contemporary hotel experience. During winter we light our open fires - the lobby fireplace attracts many admiring guests.
