“If you want luxury and staff that go the extra mile stay here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

We stayed at the Sir Stamford for two nights after a month in New Zealand and on our way home to UK.

The reception and Concierge were excellant and all the staff in the bar and at breakfast were very attentive.

After being away for a month and slept in many beds we had the best nights at the Sir Stamford. The bed was massive and the cotton sheets blissful.

Sydney Harbour is a couple of minutes walk from the hotel and we enjoyed a Harbour Cruise and a red bus tour. Even though it rained we still enjoyed our time in Sydne.

Room Tip: Our travel agent said we had a view of the harbour but it was more a view of the roof tops.

What a wonderful few days and nights at the Sir Stamford. This beautifully kept and furnished hotel made us feel like we had stepped back in time with such a lovely air about it.My friend and I could not fault the staff, service and whole overall experience with the concierge going the extra mile to please helping with luggage from beginning on footpath to end.
It is up there with the very best I've staying in worldwide. The room and hotel in general was very clean and the bed was comfortable, bathroom was huge with a separate bath and shower beautifully tiled, table and chairs in corner made it so relaxing and room service was excellent and timely, nothing was too much trouble. I lost my glasses in the taxi leaving the hotel and they managed to get them back for me via the driver the same day. I cannot thank staff enough as without glasses my holiday would have been difficult. The hotel faces the park across the road, doesn't seem like inner city, cab rank outside and bus is a short walk down the street and there is a free bus to city. Rooms are quiet and the little balcony view of harbour is lovely with the exception of that awful building which obscures all the hotels in the area. Not sure what the planners were thinking when they allowed this to be built so high. The opera house and the key are just minutes away as is Government house beside the gardens.
Would recommend this hotel very much and it will be the only place I'll stay in Sydney from now on. Big thank you to the staff at this hotel for making this a very pleasant experience.

We spent three nights here, and we were extremely pleased. The hotel is within easy walking distance to all the areas around Circular quay, the Opera house, and the overseas cruise ship terminal. It is right across the street from the Botanical gardens, and the red hop on hop off bus was right down the street. Outstanding location.

The hotel is beautifully kept, and the decor is luxurious and gorgeous. The room was quiet, and the bed very comfortable. I'd highly recommend this hotel, and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Dear Valued Guests

Thank you for choosing to stay 3 nights and for rating the hotel so highly. Location is so important when staying in larger cities, and being nearby to the Sydney ferry, train and bus hubs is such an advantage for Sir Stamford guests. The Royal Botanic Gardens opposite the hotel are extensive and provide our guests with a very large recreational area to enjoy.and a great place for photographers to take native flora and fauna shots.

The iconic open deck double decker red hop on hop off bus is very convenient for our guests and a great way for visitors to orientate themselves to Sydney if they have the time - there are 2 main routes, a city run with 26 stops and then the Bondi Beach run which goes past Watsons Bay, Rose Bay and the eastern suburbs. The Hop On Hop Off is currently $40 per person for a 24 hour ticket.

We do appreciate your you comments regarding the room comfort.

Kind regards

This hotel is a class act.

It exudes old world charm, class and elegance. Stayed for 3 nights in 2012 and it was heaven. I did not want to leave! Staff dotes on you without being pushy.

The rooms - OMG the rooms!! The rooms are special - beds are the best and the linen and towels are to die for. Best rooms are those overlooking the Harbour and the Sydney Opera House.

The interesting displays of old china and old world artefacts adds to the charm and elegance. Whenever I am in Sydney - there is no where else I would want to stay.

Room Tip: Best rooms overlooking harbour and sydney Opera House

Dear Valued Guest

A good nights sleep is of course the reason many travellers enjoy as you did our very comfortable rooms. The restful ambience that is experienced throughout the 10 floors, adorned as they are with antiques and fine art, hark from an era when even travel was an art. Todays travellers to our boutique hotel are able to experience our heritage yet still enjoy modern comforts.

We are very pleased that there is a niche in Sydney for our 105 room hotel and our style of service - friendly, but respectful. Whether it's a one night stay or a month - we do take the time to provide individual attention to our guests.

Many of the ceramic pieces throughout the hotel in lobbies and in our suites are 19th century English ironstone. However there are also some very unusual 19th century French porcelain altar vases and a wide variety of Staffordshire pottery figures. All are unique and there are no 2 the same, which enusre that every floor, lobby and corridor is a suprise to regular guests. We do look forward to your return.

Thank you again

This is a lovely traditional hotel with well trained and helpful staff especially the Concierge and his people. It is 2 minutes from circular quay and just opposite the Botanical Gardens. I booked through WOTIF and got a good price. Ask for a room on a higher floor with views of Sydney Harbour bridge. Rooms good size, very clean and good bathrooms with bath and shower. Check in staff and Manager helpful. They changed my room without any problem as I wanted a view of the bridge. It is a lovely space to come back to after a hectic day touring Sydney and its quiet. There is a good bar with good bar snacks. However the breakfasts were disappointing and expensive. Do check if your breakfast is included as even continental breakfast is 25 Australian dollars. But this is typical of Sydney hotels. I went out for breakfast as there is so much choice in the area. There are many excellent cafes and restaurants nearby including an excellent one in the botanical gardens. It is a 5 minute walk from the Opera House and 5 minutes from all the ferries on Circular quay. There is also an excellent cinema complex 2 minutes from the hotel on the Quays - welcome on a very rainy night. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Top Floors with views of the bridge. Quieter on bridge side. Noisier on Macquarie street side.

Dear Valued United Kingdom Guests

We thank you for your encompassing review - right down to letting future travellers know about the special cinema complex just down on the Quay - many of our regular guests do slip away to catch the latest movies. We agree perfectly about the Sir Stamford being a lovely space to come back to after a hectic day touring Sydney. In winter we have a lovely fire lit in our magnificent lobby Italian marble fireplace and the smell of real wood burning - and there's even a little fireplace roaring away in the Bar. The Bar does serve meals and good bar snacks, we are pleased you enjoyed your meals - but is also famous for the High Tea menu - we serve these from 11.00am until late afternoon - bookings are preferred during the week and essential on weekends.

The Concierge Team thanks you very much for your endorsement, they are wonderful ambassadors for Sydney.

KInd regards and we look forward to your return.

Stayed at this hotel for one night during the week and at checkin we were told we have been allocated a really nice room. The reservations gentleman then went on to say that all their rooms are nice but this is a really nice one...and he was right. !!

The room was huge and so was the marble bathroom, with a seperate toilet and shower area.
The bed was really comfortable and although the pillows were acceptable there's so nothing like your own.
Took a while to locate the hairdryer I needed to use thinking that it would be located somewhere within the bathroom area, but it was located in a drawer within the TV cabinet.
The room was spotless and the overall decor of the hotel was very european and elegant.

Just a short walk 5 minute walk down to Circular Quay and the Opera House.

Dear Valued Guests

Many guests comment on the size of our rooms, it seems many modern 5 star hotel rooms, aren't as generous. Our central harbours edge, Circular Quay location and classic old world style are our unique selling points for guests who enjoy the olde world ambience, a comfortable room with no "sharp" edges.

Your comments on the hair dryer location are interesting as we don't have drawers in the bathroom, perhaps we need to rethink?.

Sydney has so much happening in the coming months from Mardi Gras, to rugby tests, Carmen on the Harbour to the much lauded Vivid Festival in June - when the harbors edge buildings all around us are creatively lit. We do advise visitors use the What's on Sydney link we send out with all reservation confirmations, so they can pre-book.

Thank you again, we appreciate your 5 stars.

Sir Stamford in Sydney is a wonderful destination. It is located on the harbor and across the street from the botanical gardens. The hotel captures the feeling of European elegance and is small enough to where the staff gets to know you. The service was consistently excellent and some good restaurant deals were also found in the hotel.

Room Tip: If you are given a choice of a big bathroom or a good view, go with the big bathroom.

Dear Valued New Zealand Guests

We very much value your review, and enjoyed your recommendation of choosing a room with a big bathroom over one with a harbour view. The joy of our boutique hotel is the variance in the room layout and the position the room faces - but there is no better side or better view - it's just personal preference. Personal photos on tripadvisor must be a good bonus for travelers as they can clearly see the real thing.

Thank you for sharing your opinions of our staff and excellent service standards - we are always pleased when guest discover our restaurant and bar - before exploring the cities offerings.

We agree Sir Stamford at Circular Quay does have an elegant European style - thank you for taking the time to post your review, we look forward to more New Zealanders staying with us.
