I stayed in Room 221 (City Harbour King) on 20 Dec 2012.
Unfortunately my stay had a woeful start - the driver of the Park Hyatt limo service I booked from the airport couldn't even be bothered to meet me inside the airport like every other chauffeured service I've used, and neither did he ring me to inform me where he was, leaving me to search high and lo across T2 to find him (he was loitering outside the terminal, at the opposite end from where I exited the security area - clearly because he couldn't be bothered to park the vehicle). After juggling my bags for 15 minutes trying to find him, I was not impressed - not helped by the fact that no apology was offered for the considerable lapse in service). At $110 each way, higher than a non-affiliated chauffeur service for airport transfer, you'd expect better.
Reception was friendly, but was disappointed that my poor experience with limo - that I passed on - received no further comment or apology.
Room itself was clean, and attractive, but perhaps a little spartan for this price level. Small LCD too. View was water was nice (and I liked balcony too) but not a lot to see as view obscured by big cruise ship. I was glad there was a electric sheer blind, as you are very much on display to public walking past otherwise.
Bathroom had rainfall shower (pressure fairly weak), mountable shower head (pressure good), and small bath (didn't use). Toiletries nice, and spare toothbrushes etc on hand.
Toto Japanese Washlet toilet in WC, bit of a novelty but a nice extra.
Good closet space, and decent shoeshine service too (In my experience the better the shoeshine service, the better the grade of hotel - just one of the quick rule of thumb tests I have found). Shame laundry options are a little dated (express service that takes 1/2 day, not exactly express).
Bed too firm (guessing catering for overseas Asian guests, where extra firm beds are the norm), but pillows nice and soft.
Had room service breakfast, quality was good and reasonably timely.
The stand-out, however, was the exceptional Lauren and Courtney of the Park Hyatt Day Spa. Lauren made me feel like a VIP, and Courtney's skill had all the tension, stress and disappointment of my limo experience just melt away. Ranks as one of the best spa treatments I've had.
Check-out was fine, and thankfully no problems with my limo ride back to the airport.
At this end of the market, it's all about service (especially since happy guests tend to spend freely on hotel services). Park Hyatt Sydney needs some service polish in some areas, but when it gets it right, it'll be one of Sydney's best hotels.
Because of the outstanding Lauren and Courtney at the Spa, I'll be back soon.
