“Dish Restaurant? Don't wast your money......”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2007

Booked our five nights at the Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour through wotif. Only chose this option as Saturday night seemed to have no rooms available when booking direct with Novotel. Found the "Fall in love again in Sydney" package to be the best value as it included both dinner for two and breakfast. Well it turned out not to be the best choice. The dinner for two only offered a choice of either a entre & main or main & desert from the set menu.. which only had three choices... steak, fish & chicken being the mains. Had the steak the first night which was full of gristle and as tough as a slice of rubber. My partner had the chicken fillet which came with a bone and was rare. Mentioned the lack of choices to the waiter who suggest I will have to eat something twice, when I declined the wine menu we were then ignored all night. Very poor service indeed. Tried the fish the next night which was ok, my partner had the steak which was the other half of the piece of rubber I had the night before.... the next three nights we dinned elswhere. Darling Harbour has many great restaurants which are all superior and less expensive than the Dish. Whilst we had a great room with a nice view of the harbour, room servicing was a joke. Having been out all day we were very surprised to come back to an unserviced room. Had to leave the room until around 4.30pm before it was serviced. So much for a relaxing nap before dinner. Whilst some of the staff were more than hospitable, the hotel needs a lesson from the Gold Coast with regards to looking after their guests.. Will never go back to the Novotel.. This is not a 4 star hotel by my standards.

I stayed here for 2 nights for business. The location is great - easy to walk around Darling Harbour and right at the light rail and monorail stations. The room was well appointed, good quality, everything worked properly. Decent sized. Fantastic views over Darling Harbour - looks great at night.

Ordered room service and it came quickly and was really good quality food.

The bed was comfy, the towels were average. All the things in the room you need - iron and board, mini bar, tea/coffee, internet, TV, very basic toiletries - in fact I didn't bother with them. the staff and the service were very good.

My main complaint is the price - VERY expensive - you are paying for the view but go to the city side of the harbour and you can knock heaps off the price.

Good location very close to Darling Harbour shops and restaurants.
Bedrooms very well appointed; beds comfortable but fairly small.
Restaurant and lounge areas were cold and unappealing and service of tea/coffee at breakfast almost non-existant.

We arrived in Sydney fo a "girls" weekend and needed to be able to get around without a car. The location was stunning. We had a room with a view of Darling Harbour and at night it was magnificent. A mass of lights. I left the curtains open to just soak up the view!
As for getting around. There were 2 monorail stops within an easy walk, A tram stop was nearby and the taxis were a cheap option for us as there were 4 of us.
One day we opted for the ferry / train/ bus pass and ferried out of Darling Harbour to Circular Quay and across to Manly. all very accessible from the Hotel.
Nearby was a seven 11 and a superette and internet cafe.
Harbourside was easily accessible as well and there are so many restaurants and fast food places, eating was easy and could be cheap. $10- $12 for breakfast.
The rooms were well appointed and staff were helpful.

The single beds look more like doubles to me. So comfortable! As mentioned by most reviews, the location is superb and the hotel is great. Most lamented the price but I got the room for a steal! With the Accord card for S$ 240, not only did I get 50% off at the restaurants but also 2 Complimentary nights for free. Even if I don't
use the other privileges, per night work out to be only about A$100. Try not to drive if you're just staying in the town cos' the parking isn't free, not even if you're guest at the hotel. In the city, I don't think any of the hotel provide free parking. We regretted renting the car and had to search around for the best price parking. In the end, we found free overnight parking in one of the neighbourhood estate and park in the hotel early in morning when the special rate starts (Can't remember the timing cos' its been 7 months). But have to catch the timing for the special car park rates.

My husband took me to the Novotel at Darling Harbour for the weekend in January for my birthday. The hotel itself is really nice and modern but we found the service to be very ordinary. My husband had called them prior to the weekend to organise for a cake, chocolates and champagne to be made available for my birthday night as a suprise and it was ruined when it was set up the minute we arrived which was not my b'day. We also had an issue with a fire door that wasnt closing properly at the end of our hallway that was making a really loud whistling noise. We had to call four times for someone to come and fix it. We also were dissapointed with the room service. When we returned from our day out, we noticed a strong cigarette smoke smell. We thought it may be coming from the air conditioning and thought, oh well. However, when we went to throw something in the bin we noticed all this cigarette ash on the floor. We had requested a non smoking room but obviously that means only the guests dont smoke but the cleaners can. Check out took forever as they only had one staff memeber on the desk and lots of people waiting to check in/out. The restaurant is way way over priced, your better off walking to the harbour and eating by the water. Overall, i have to say it is in a great great location close to the casino and monorail, etc. but the service needs to be improved in a big way.

I stayed at the Novotel Darling Harbour in a Deluxe Harbour View room on a recent weekend away. The location is fantastic - the Darling Harbour waterfront has lots to see and do, and the monorail stops just outside so travel to the city is easy. The facilities were excellent. The rooms are modern and tidy with great views, LCD TV, fridge, etc. There is a small but well equipped gym, small swimming pool, tennis court, etc. The breakfasts are excellent.

My only negative comment is that the hotel and services are a bit overpriced, eg: the room was AU$289 p/n, continental breakfast was AU$45 for 2 people (more to have the cooked selection).

Overall a nice hotel, but I think there is better value for money to be found elsewhere.
