“just what we needed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

Stayed 1 night, arrived late from airport. Tried to get taxi from Central Station late at night- dont do it. very scary and no taxis around. Apparently we shouldve continued in on the train from the airport to the next stop and gotten off at Town Hall which is more lively and safer at night.
At the hotel:
Staff efficient and helpful, not chatty but not rude and helped with our queries. Not as much noise as we expected. There was a 9 Inch Nails concert on at Entertainment centre next door and we were on 3rd floor so expected the worst but didnt need to resort to our ear plugs. Aircon and fan in room were quite noisy which worked to our advantage and blocked a lot of the street noise.
Beds were comfortable, room was clean, good shower. Pool and breakfast were both fine.
Best thing was the location. Chinese garden was lovely, very relaxing. Close to Chinatown, N2 Extreme Gelato and Darling Harbour. Easy walk to Central Station in Daytime and they happily stored our bag while we wandered around Sydney for the day.
If staying again I would ask for a room on a higher floor, we got a deal through a booking company so expect this meant we were automatically put on a low floor and probably couldve had a quieter room if we booked direct with Accor/Novotel and paid a little more

we had room 230..Grout in the tiles around the bath was virtually black..Needed a good bleach and scrub. The aircon fan was so noisy we had to sleep with no air on during the night and it was a very warm night.NOT ideal..I know a lot of the cheaper hotels dont use quilt covers and only throw a cover over the quilt but this quilt was dirty ,i would expect a quilt cover from A NOVATEL..I threw it off and didnt use it.The cleaners had vacuum cleaners going at 9am outside our room..We had a 11 am check out and had planned on a sleep in as we had a late night..Then to top it off room service banged on our door at 9.30 to clean our room..SERIOUSLY!!!! have never stayed anywhere where the cleaners start cleaning around you before checkout..We did tell reception when we checked out but the man at reception just did not care..Very dissapointed..As it was a special planned Birthday night out this hotel ruined that night..have stayed at quite a few Hotels around Darling Harbour and this has been the worse!

Room Tip: stay elsewhere!

Dear Cristina C,

First, please accept my apologies for the issues encountered at Novotel Rockford Darling Harbour. We are not typically known for this kind of service and I have addressed each and every level of issue with my management team to ensure this does not happen to any guest again.

While I understand this does not replace the memory of your experience at Novotel Rockford Darling Harbour, I would like to offer you my assistance for any booking you have in the future with an Accor hotel to ensure you are treated to the level of expectation you deserve, and so that I may be able to offer you the opportunity to restore your faith in our hotels.

Once again, please accept my apologies.

Sincerely Yours,

We went to Sydney for mixed reasons - bit of sight seeing, catching up with old friends and a touch of business.

I always find Sydney massively over priced compared to other major cities. Luckily we are Accor Members so we managed to get this hotel at a good rate (40% off) with free internet and late checkouts, however if I had paid full price I would have felt it was not worth the price - but thats the same with any hotel in Sydney.

I found the rooms have a bit of a no thrills plastically feel to them, but they're clean and fresh looking. The hotel is a short walk away from Darling Harbour and China town but quite far from the Rocks.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful giving lots of helpful knowledge about the area such as recommending restaurants to eat at. The breakfast was ok with a wide choice and gluten free options.

Nicely appointed hotel with great location to darling Harbour. Modest room but comfortable. It is a fairly short walk from Town Hall train station.

In this day and age however hotels should offer complimentary Wifi on all floors. It's widely available overseas but in Australia you get burned for everything.

We stayed two nights (Fri/Sat) early Jan and I usually struggle to sleep in the middle of Sydney. I have stayed in many hotels in the CBD over the years and always wake to drunken idiots and/or horns and sirens over the weekend nights. Not here! Perhaps it's location (not much foot traffic) and proximity to a fairly busy freeway actually was good! If sleep is important to you. And close to Darling Harbour. Not a bad price. The rooms are comfy although the toilet is the strangest contraption, you have to push it in a particular way to get a flush, I can only imagine how many calls the front desk get about it. Sounds weird but it gets annoying.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

We stayed in room 327 for three nights at the end of February. The room had been booked through Imagine Cruises as an add on at the end of a P & O cruise aboard 'Arcadia'.
Generally the hotel was of average quality probably 3 star, no more. I noticed that it displayed a commendation from Trip Advisor on the reception wall dated 2003. I can only think that the person who judged this hotel must have slept on the front (away from the three way taffic lighted junction) or maybe did not actually stay in the hotel!
The road side of the hotel was very noisy all night as the vehicles braked, stopped then accelerated away from the junction. Perhaps a room on the top (7th floor) may have been better but I doubt it somehow. The owners must be aware as when I mentioned it to the receptionist she asked which room we had stayed in, when I replied 327 she just said 'oh yes'. The hotel was full therefore I did not expect to be moved. I should have checked it out first on Trip Advisor before departing the UK however it may well be highly rated as per the plaque on the reception wall. The bedding was poor quality and the coffee cups and glasses used on the first morning had not been cleaned when we went to use them on the second morning. The mini bar was hellishly expensive i.e. $8 for a small Kit Kat (over £4) although the small bottle of water my wife used was complimentary. The bottom of the bath on which you need to stand to have a shower was very narrow to safely stand on unless you had very small feet.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

The hotel location was good and all going well until used the taxi booked by the hotel taxiscombined.com.au .They charged us 67 dollars to go to the airport when there was no traffic other people were charged 29, or 34 dollars. left a very sour taste in the mouth regarding Sydney.I recommend speaking to the driver before you set off about the price even though they are supposed to be metered.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the chinese gardens.
