“Good for transit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

Early arrival at this hotel after a long flight from Singapore.. No early check in available as this hotel seems to be quite popular with business travellers due to its location in down town sydney but cant complain as was informed of check in timings in advance. Still thanks to front desk, got the rooms (3 rooms) about 2 hours before the standard check in time.

Rooms are small but ok with comfortable beddings and are clean. Hotel has a nice and small pool on terrace. Breakfast was really better than expectations.

Hotel is a value for money going by their reasonable charges but if you are expecting any luxury than look somewhere else. This is kind of no frills hotel with necessary add-ons.

Fabulous location - easy to get to all the good places - on foot, by tram, train or bus. Decor and fittings getting a little tired but the rooms are clean and comfortable. Food was great and reasonably priced for dinner and breakfast.

I needed an easy place to stay in Sydney, but as my destination was by train, staying near Central Station was much easier than heading in closer to the CBD. The Mercure was just fine. Thanks to a late plane, check in was late, but no fuss. The room was a funny shape - sort of a half-circle - but comfortable all the same. The plusses are that the hotel is a little out of the CBD, so cheaper and 'family friendly', abd quite comfortable. The lesser lights are the fact that, being close to the uni, the surrounding cafes are are all very much on the 'cheap and cheerful' fast-food type.

Room Tip: A high room is imperative, as many of them look over the main intersection outside central station...

We arrived late in the evening following a farcical experience with the shuttle bus operators. Check in was speedy, but we were put into a room that was already occupied! My husband found the Manager and we were relocated to a room on the 12th floor with great city views. We were too tired to go out, so ordered a snack through room service. It was delivered promptly and was very tasty - club sandwich, one was enough for both of us. We had made the booking through the Wotif Mystery Deal, which we use quite a lot and have yet to be disappointed, so naturally we were happy with the rate. We found the room to be spacious, with a good bathroom - although I would not normally expect a shower over the bath in this sort of hotel, king bed, plenty of storage and shelf space, coffee table with two armchairs. The decor was very tasteful and whoever was responsible for this side of the operation had done a terrific job with materials etc. The hotel offered a variety of pillow types. In fact, we were more than happy. We did not use the other facilities of the hotel since we had made other arrangements. Excellent location for trains and buses.
