“Excellent hotel right at the heart of Sydney”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2010

At busy street level the hotel is hardly visible - a lobby with lifts to reception on the eighth floor, where the bar and restaurant are also situated, with separate lifts to rooms on higher floors. There is a good sense of privacy and, surprisingly in the middle of a vibrant city, a calm atmosphere, especially in the bedrooms, where outside noise is effectively eliminated. The hotel is modern, elegant and comfortable, a perfect place for both business travellers and tourists who want a peaceful lodging in the city centre The rooms are spacious, although more drawer space would be helpful, and the buffet breakfast is very good. There is an open-air swimming pool of modest size, but too cold for comfort. All in all, a very nice place to stay at a reasonable price.

Got this hotel as part of a mystery deal on lastminute hotels. Having read many reviews on this website must say I was really worried, but I shouldn't have been. Check in was smoothe staff were polite, and wished my partner a happy birthday adding that we had a very nice room which we did. It was large, looked recently refurbished with a view of city buildings and skyline including some glimpses of water at Darling Harbour. The bathroom was large and clean as was the rest of the room, though the bed was very hard.

Breakfast was included, there was no wait for a table and while the variety was standard, the food was hot and eggs were being cooked to order. Tea if ordered whether in a cup or pot was via a teabag, with newspapers brought to your table on request.

But the highlight (also included in the package) was the 30 minute massage each at the Amrita Spa, it was delightful, with a delicious smell wafting through the room and soothing music playing - many thanks Rosita for a really relaxing experience.

Stayed here on a girls weekend. We treated ourselves to an Executive Room which included evening capapes and drinks also breakfast the next morning. This is the way to go and is well worth the bit extra.
Hotel is in okay condition - I had thought it was in good condition until I noticed the stained curtains and wall when I sat down to enjoy my breakfast.
We will be back and will recomend the hotel to friends.

Its easy to miss the entrance to the hotel as the Macy store takes over most of the lower floors of the building. The hotel reception is on the 8th floor along with the crossroads bar and the hotel restaurant. Our checkin was ok. Our room was on the 17th floor with a view overlooking the ourdoor pool and jucuzzi. Our room was standard size. There is aircon in the rooms but we couldnt get the room to the right temperature it was often stuffy in the room? The bathroom had a bath and seperate shower. Hairdryer provided. We had to request extra towels and toiletries on two occasions in a three night stop. Our room had a mini bar which was rammed full but we didnt use anything. The usual desk and chair and also one small easy chair. We had a kettle but there was never enough tea bags sugar or milk and we had to ring down and visit reception so many times I lost count!

On a couple of websites Ive read bathrobes and slippers are provided. Not in our room.

The spa has on outdoor rooftop pool which is supposed to be heated?? a jucuzzi which didnt have enough water in it? The fitness centre and sauna we didnt use. We also had to search for towels when visiting in the afternoon.

We had a cocktail in the Crossroads bar one evening which were $15 and $17 and handmade by the barman.

Breakfast was another story! We endured breakfast on two mornings. I had good expectations as Ive stopped at the Swissotel in Zurich. On arrival to the restaurant we waited far too long at the 'please wait to be seated' sign? The Restaurant nor the staff were busy? I had to request teabags on two seperate ocassions on the first visit. Also the fruit juice stand wasnt stocked that well two had runout. The breakfast display in my opinion was poor. There wasnt much choice in cooked meats or cheeses. The bread/rolls were basic and some felt it had been on display too long. The fruit was ok but there was no yogurt? There was a fresh honeycomb rack which looked interesting. The 'cooked' breakfast I have to say in all the countries in the world I ve been this has to be the worst ever. Everything was stone cold both mornings and we visited at different times. A hotel with 4 stars and they cant even heat baked beans.......The bacon sausage mushrooms tomatoes and various potatoes looked great but all stone cold. There were two chefs cooking fresh eggs and pancakes but the two poached eggs we had were under cooked. Very poor. We did mention it to the hotel and they said they would pass our comments on?

This Swissotel is nowhere near the same standard as the Swissotel in Zurich which Ive stopped at so I found the Swissotel in Sydney dissappointing and not what you would expect from the Swissotel brand. I would not choose to stop there again.

On behalf of the team at Swissôtel Sydney, we thank this guest for bringing these key issues to our attention.

Firstly, we are very sorry this guest was less than impressed with their stay and wish to take this opportunity to apologise.

In regards to the Guest Room and Amenities, such as the Toiletries, Thermostat and Pool, please be assured we have followed this up with all relevant departments for review. In addition, Our Housekeeping Staff would be delighted to provide Bathrobes upon request to guests in our Swiss Classic Rooms.

In regards to the breakfast, we have followed this up with our Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Manager for immediate improvement. We acknowledge that overall, this guests dining experience was less than satisfactory and again we apologise for any disappointment this may have caused.

Finally we do hope to meet this guests’ expectations to the full extent and invite them to contact the hotel directly, as we endeavor to make it up to them on their next stay.

I stayed one night here as it was close to my work. I ordered room service dinner - mistake. Expensive and tasteless, absolutely no flavour to the pumpkin soup. Ordered breakfast - same deal. Tasteless coffee, tasteless baked beans. Service was fine, just no flavour to the food. Room was OK, certainly not spacious, but TV at an odd angle to the bed and unable to be angled for a better view. Wouldn't stay again, except that it is in a handy spot. Such a shame, as little changes could make it so much better.

I stayed here with my daughter for 6 days. The location is fantastic for arrival on the train from the airport. When you get off the train just walk through the mall & up the escalator to the hotel. We got a 7 day train ticket for $48. each which also works on the buses & ferry to the zoo. The Town Hall train staion is very close by. The hotel was very quiet and the room was large enough & the bathroom was very nice. We wanted to store some things in the mini bar & asked to have the contents removed but there would have been a $40. charge so we crammed our stuff in there anyway. The only thing that was annoying was the keys didn't work well & had to be recharged constantly at the desk. You have to use them to operate the lift as well as your room.
We recomend the Bridge Climb & the Tarongo Zoo & of course walking around the Opera House. The Botanical Gardens is very beautiful & you definately need to be there just before sunset in time for the GIANT bats to come out in masses.
Food is very expensive & there is a grocery store up the street from the hotel called Woolworth's. We recomend a restaurant at Circular Quay by the rail station by the Starbucks called "One". Best salmon I ever had! You should also go to The Australian Hotel in the Rocks district for Crocodial & Emu pizza's. Try the Kangaroo some where,it's like sirloin steak.
