Booked this via a last minute website, and was very happy with the place. I arrived two hours early, but there was a room available and early check-in was no problem. I had their "basic" room - which consists of a nice king bed, large work desk, two chairs, big built-in wardrobe, and a very nice bathroom with walk-in shower and separate bathtub. I had a view over the Sydney Tower building site but didn't find it very noisy - if you are more sensitive to noise ask for a room on the other side of the building. I didn't hear any guest noise except the rare bit of chatter from the lift area.

The bed is quite firm, which is what I personally prefer, so this may not be the place for you if you like soft beds. There is a large LCD tv in the room with local and some Foxtel channels. Housekeeping were very prompt when I called up for extra towels to wash my hair (it's very long).

All the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and discreet. The woman at check-in gave me a discount voucher for breakfast in their restaurant, but I didn't end up using it. If you want to eat cheaply, the Central Plaza food court just around the corner has lots of options to suit all tastes, the Retro Cafe across the street is also good, or you could get on the monorail and travel 5 minutes to Darling Harbour or Chinatown and find a restaurant or cafe there.

Recommended for a truly comfortable stay in the heart of the CBD. Booking via some websites you can get a room here for only a few dollars more than a three star hotel, and it's well worth it.

The first time I stayed at Swissotel Sydney in 2007 was a bigger thrill than my most recent trip in June 2009. I was very much looking forward to staying there this trip based on my last stay, but I liked the hotel better when it was newer because it seemed cleaner. My husband and I agreed that the chairs in the Crossroads bar in the lobby needed serious reupholstering. The dirty arms and obvious spilled food/drinks on the chairs actually made me feel grossed out to sit in them.

I do still like the room.s Well, I actually think the bathrooms are the best part of the rooms for the full length tub and cool Swiss design. The spa has a very nice menu, but I decided I'd rather spend my money on new clothes than spa treatments. My husband and I agreed that our flatscreen TV was too small to actually watch from the distance of the bed. In summary, the Swissotel is a very nice place, but it just seems some details have been overlooked, and for the same price, I question if you could find a nicer, more updated place. That said, the Marriott near Hyde Park costs more per night, and my husband and his colleagues agree that Swissotel is a better value - a nicer place for less money.

If you want to shop, then I would recommend Swissotel because it's by the QVB, Myer and David Jones. But if you want to sightsee, then I am very fit (work out daily) but quickly tired of the walk to the Circular Quay, and I preferred the Mantra, even if it wasn't as clean or stylish.

As this was my 5th trip to Sydney, I was looking for some "off the beaten path" suggestions for restaurants and things to do from the concierge. I found the concierge completely useless, and that I could have done a better job myself! They are still recommending the same restaurants they told us about in 2007! And, on a Sunday night at 9 when we needed dinner, they told us about 1 restaurant, which we'd already eaten at and did not like. If we weren't willing to go there, they said nothing else in Sydney would be opened! Pardon me?! Even I could list a few places. My husband and I went for a walk and found a few choices of places that still had kitchens open.

They best part of staying at Swissotel Sydney is the style / decor and closeness to shopping.
The worst pary of staying here is the useless concierge, long walk to Circular Quay, and furniture that needs updating.

Stayed at the Swissotel Sydney for 3 nights over the Queen's B'day long weekend - got a great deal 3 nights for the price of 2. It was only for the Classic Room, but wow what a room!
The room was really big, with a king bed, desk and lounge chair. And the bathroom was amazing! There was a separate shower (the best shower ever according to my husband!) and bath and all the usual amenities.
We had a view of Sydney Tower from our room, ok granted you had to crane your neck a bit to see the top, but we usually get a view of another building, so it was a nice change!
The staff seemed really nice, we didn't try out the restaurant or get room service, so can't comment on that.
The location is really good - just around the corner from the monorail station and a block away from Town Hall train station.
The only thing we can fault the hotel on is that the curtains don't block out the light, My husband is a really light sleeper and the first ray of light usually wakes him up. They really should get block out curtains.
Overall though a wonderful stay, will definitely return when in Sydney next :)
