“High quality hotel in a great location for shopping”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

If you want to be amongst all the shopping then this is the place for you. The hotel is set right next to all the main shops and malls in Sydney, and is a very close walk to Town Hall train station. Unusually the hotel's lobby is on the 8th floor, but there is a concierege service available on the ground floor to take care of baggage.

We only had a one night stay but found the hotel to be very clean and comfortable. The rooms were a very good size and included an arm chair and two desk chairs, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable.

The room had all the facilities that one would expect from a five start hotel but it also had a nespresso coffee machine which was a welcome surprise. The bathroom was large with both a bath and a separate walk-in shower.

The lobby area and bar looked great, particularly the giant swiss clock on the wall.

I would recommended this hotel and would have no hesitation to stay here again.

Swissotel is a good hotel in downtown Sydney. Good location downtown in walking distance of all major attractions. Rooms are average, water system was a bit loud from the other rooms. Nice and professional staff. Good breakfast with swiss features like Bircher Muesli and Roesti.

Room Tip: High floor so you have a good view

I recently booked into the Swissotel on advice from a friend who said “you can’t go past the Swissotel”.
.
Actually, you can.

But its not due to any dissatisfaction with my guest experience, its simply the fact that the street entrance for this hotel is so discreet you can actually walk right passed it.

Were it not for the presence of a bell hop and a ubiquitous luggage trolley you could almost be forgiven for thinking you’d walked through the staff entrance to the Myer department store around which this 'otel has been constructed.

The heart of this hotel is actually located on the 8th floor of the building and is accessed via lifts. The lobby opens up to reveal an expanse of public space including reception and a restaurant. It also has a bar but, in keeping with the ground floor confusion, the bar seating area is obscured from initial view by what appears to be a series of oversized wine barrels.

These are, in fact, rather inventive and dramatic seating booths when viewed from the other side. I have to admit, they work and lifts the obligatory foyer bar experience to new heights.

The service is polite but communication difficulties with the staff require me to order a more common and less confusing concoction – despite its availability in over 170 countries it would appear than nobody has ever ordered a drink containing Pernod. The alternate choice of a Peach Bellini was, in a word, lethal, possibly some form of apology for the first choice mix up.

My room, a twin double, was spacious. Located on the 21st floor, the room offered modest west facing views of office buildings and glimpses of the Darling Harbour precinct and western suburbs beyond. The décor and furnishings were really lovely. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom contained a separate bath and shower. All the little touches were there (quality soaps, towels for the heated pool and even a pillow menu), the overall experience befitting a room rate significantly higher than that which I actually paid.

At some point during my stay, I briefly shared a lift with a gentleman (clearly associated with the hotel in some capacity), whose genuine friendliness and interest in my guest experience left me feeling welcomed and important. It was, as Jan Carlsson might say, a moment of truth.

Overall, this was a great hotel experience. If you’re visiting Sydney, this is a great base. If you live in Sydney, this is a great option for a weekend city stay that has now demonstrated (on two occasions) a capacity to deliver an experience beyond the investment you’ll make in order to stay there.

But don’t miss the front door, or should I say 'oor.

Room Tip: valet parking was $55, it is a little difficult to find parking in the bays outside the entrance but...

We stayed here during August. We have stayed in Sydney before but this was the first time at the Swisshotel. It is very centrally placed and convenient for shops, restaurants and Circular Quay etc. Our room was on the 23rd floor and was large, bright and very clean. The bed was comfortable.
The lobby arrangement is a little strange at first as you enter a very unassuming small hall take a lift to the 9th floor where the real lobby is located from here you take lifts to the bedroom floors. The lobby is good with a bar and restaurant but perhaps could benefit from some confortable sofa style seating/ waiting area. The pool is very nice.
I would stay there again.

I have stayed twice at the Swissotel in Sydney, once for business and once for leisure. Had a great experience each time. Fantastic location and service. Rooms are well appointed and bathrooms are very large! Great value.

Stayed here for 2 nights for business in August 2012. Excellent location. Was a bit disappointed with lobby until I was informed to go to the 8th floor to check-in as the street entrance is just the concierge. The lobby is large and modern. The check in was quick. The room was light and roomy. The bathroom had a bath and separate shower. The staff was friendly and helpful. The service was very personal - on delivering room service addressed me by name. Would recommend for business or leisure.

We stayed at the Swissotel for the first 6 nights of our trip and can say that we enjoyed it.

The previous reviews about the location of the hotel are spot on. We loved being about to easily walk anywhere or easily catch the train.

Our room was on the 11th floor so we didn't have any view but it was very clean. The kids loved the large bathtub.
The staff were helpful and friendly and always smiling, even when we had to call at 4 am for a new set of bedding since my daughter had had an accident.

Our only complaints were the lack of free wi-fi and that the duvets were much too small. It was like they put a twin size duvet on a double/queen bed. A top sheet would have been nice too.
