We spent four days over new years at this Medina and paid dearly for it. But all hotels in Sydney raise their prices drastically during this period. The room was comfortable and nicely furnished. Staff at the desk were helpful and friendly. We were able to park in the undergound secure parking ($30/night). You get 30 minutes of free wi-fi per day per room in the lobby, but the charge for wi-fi in the room is quite high. It was convenient having a full kitchen and washer/dryer.

I had to work over the New Year and as I get paid penalty rates (extra) for doing this I decided I did not want to commute home by full train or self drive car and looked around for a hotel. This one is the nearest to my place of work so I found a deal for a min. stay of 3 days (their stipulation). just under half the cost of a five star near the harbour it was excellent value.

The property is a renovation of the old Post Office Parcels office/processing building adjoining but not quite on Central Station. I asked for a quiet room and got a back level 1 corner apartment, huge with separate bedroom, and very large lounge dining area plus great kitchen with dishwasher etc. Bathroom had laundry machines in cupboard. The whole was spotlessly clean and appliances hardly used new condition.

Parking is available at a modest fee. Although the room i had was an upgrade, there are much smaller ones i would still not hesitate to stay again but even at normal times prices are more suited to suits (sorry for that i.e. business travels spending someone elses money and clearly room 15 would be excellent for anyone needing to holding meetings during the day. The best value supermarket is a few bus stops away at Broadway shopping centre, parking, taxi or bus (which I hopped on) are the best way to get there.

When I arrived to this hotel I was spun a line about being 'upgraded' to a loft apartment. I forgot that this means there are stairs to a loft - stairs to the bedroom and the only toilet in the apartment. When I got into the room, I realised my mistake but thought I would live with it as the room had a great balcony, a view over the mildly interesting Central railway, and a small kitchenette and two TVs, so looked pretty good. However, the rooms facing the railway face east and the eastern wall is all glass. It was a hot and steamy couple of days in Sydney - and sleeping was almost an impossibility. The air conditioning, already cranked down to 18, had zero effect in the loft bedroom and the huge eastern window meant that from the moment the sun rose (5.30am) the bedroom was a complete oven. When I asked to be downgraded to an ordinary room, of course, none were available, because anyone who has ever stayed in one of those rooms would never want to go there again. I don't like to be caught out by desk staff spinning me a line......upgraded indeed.

We have stayed twice at this property and been delighted both times: the service is excellent; the apartments are spacious and tastefully decorated; the location is superb, with access to all train services at Central Railway a minute's walk away; the apartments are virtually sound proof and immaculately clean. We look forward to a return visit in the new year.
