We found l'otel from a travel book. We wanted a place centrally located and with some flair. Well we got both.Right on the next street was quaint cafe's and resturants. We were able to walk to almost everything we wanted to go see. we loved our room with the veranda. The staff is so nice. They happly answered all my questions I had going to a new country

Budget traveller paradise........................but a nightmare for an upscale traveller with a family.
The Website pictures are misleading. The interiors and the Hotel looks far from what you see in Web.There are no elevators, if you have heavy baggage it is a nightmare climbing the narrow stairs.
Nodoubt for that price, the location and the surroundings and amenities available around are amazing.
If you are an Asian, you have Malabar(Indian) Restuarant in Victoria street(back of the Hotel),A Thai takeaway in front of the Hotel. The next door is pure vegetarian ISCON spiritual center anf food is available.
Bus 311 takes you to Central Quay. A few meters walk you are in Kingscross station.
The room I stayed for a week supposedly a big one, but no windows, you are shut off from external world, but who cares, as a tourist you are not going to spend the whole day in the room.YOu have come to see Sydney!
Darlinghurst is a great area, for the price that I paid I can not complain, may be I am a compromising person.
The Reception desk attendants were friendly and helpful.
I would not condemn it, but would certainly recommend for a budget traveller with lots of facilities in the surroundings.

I was overjoyed by the website for the this hotel and truly expecting a "luxury designer hotel" as indicated on their website link. While the stay wasn't necessarily a horific stay, it was memorable for both good and bad reasons. The hotel in and of itself was a bit dated. My boyfriend was abhorred by the fact that they did not include duvet covers on the once-white but nearly off-white duvet. And I really got a kick out of our champagne and chocolate turn down service which was a bigger turn-off when the, albeit friendly, staff member, knocked on the door and shoved three halloween sized mars bars in my hand and handed me a bottle of sparkling wine.

Located in Darlinghurst it was able to suit our needs, yet one should be warned that it sits close to the entrance of Kings Cross (a plus or negative depending on ones tastes).

The Balconies, which are easily shared by the neighboring room, were a plus, however, I would never stay here with anything but an open mind and a major discount from the rates that they charge on the website (Executive rooms with balcony from AU$275.00 ) and a preparation the enjoy the beautiful, exciting, city of Sydney. While the website claims that "no expense has been spared on this Burley Katon Halliday refurbishment" go in knowing that little expense has been applied to the maintenance of the hotel.

This place was a major disappointment. This hotel looks like it was chic at one time but has been neglected in a big way. The place is dirty and the reception area is a strange little hallway. When we complained about the shabbiness of our room they put us in another room that was not much better and lacked a balcony, which we had reserved. But they still charged us the balcony room rate! We argued with them and things got very tense. Overall, a terrible experience!

The only thing good about this place is its location - it's in a great neighborhood full of fun bars, shops and restaurants. If you want this location, the Kirketon, which is just down the street looked nice.

I've never seen a hotel as filthy as this. We booked via the internet after seeing the appealing - but completely mis-leading website. After checking in we were given vague directions out and around the corner to the second part of the hotel. After climbing the narrow, stained carpet stairs we arrived at our room which smelt like an ashtray. The walls and furniture was filthy with sticky Coca Cola stains all over the chair. The bathroom smelt like mould (coming from the rotten shower curtain) and the toilet had not been cleaned. The only window opened onto the roof of the Thai restaurant next door (complete with noise and smells of an industrial kitchen fan). There was no cover on the quilt - just 2 sheets folded over it to look like a quilt cover, which upon getting into bed, fell apart to reveal the stained, cigarette smoke filled old doona. The final straw came in the morning when, kneeling on the floor to retreive some coins that had rolled under the bed, we came face to face with what I can only assume was months worth of rubbish and filth - including a used tampon. Needless to stay we checked out immediately and will never go back. The proprieters should be ashamed
