“Great location but nothing special otherwise”

We stayed here for 3 nights in March. We arrived early in the morning after a flight from Singapore and were pleasantly surprised to be able to check in. Our room was on the 17th floor with a great view of the harbour bridge, we had booked this and paid extra for the view. Apart from the view the room was a standard 4 star room. Some of the fixtures and decor looked a little tired and the bathroom was rather small and old fashioned compared to others I've seen in similar kinds of places. Overall a comfortable room but if it hadn't have been for the view, it would have been nothing special at all.

We ate breakfast at the hotel on a couple of occasions. There was a good selection of hot and cold options but at $38 per person it was an expensive option unless you were very hungry. On other mornings we grabbed something smaller at the local starbucks and there were plenty of other more reasonably priced options in the area.

The location of the hotel is by far it's biggest asset. It's right next door to the stunning botanical gardens and a 2 minute walk from Circular Quay. Given that we were in Sydney for the first time we didn't eat at the hotel in the evening, there are so many other places to try that this was unnecessary. We did have a cocktail in the bar one evening which was nice. The bar itself shut at 11.30 which we found unusual in a hotel of this nature in a city location.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but whether we would come back is uncertain. I feel for what we paid we might have found something with more of a 'wow' factor which is what you expect from a hotel with a 5 star rating. Without the great view from this room this would have been an entirely average stay.

Very nice hotel with beautifully decorated rooms. Location is great--right near Circular Quay and the Rocks area.

Food was very over-priced--recommend going elsewhere to eat. We stayed during a busy weekend and the hotel refused to honor my Platinum rewards card. There are a few shops in the hotel, including a Bose store. The shops themselves were very reasonably priced for tourist type goods--better than most other stores.

Yes, this is probably more of a business hotel, but you cannot beat the location! Book a room with a view (we were in 1826), because when you marry the view with the location, the beds, and the bathroom, this is an incredible hotel.

We found check-in/check-out to be very easy and the staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Evening turn-down service (oddly we seemed to always be in when they came by) was very pleasant with chocolates and bottles of water. Pool is OK, as is the gym - but if you are touring around, you'll get plenty of exercise. The hotel is perfectly located for access to the Circular Quay - and you can get anywhere from here.

The bathroom was a decent size, with nice toiletries and a roomy shower - plus a cute little glass window so you could look out to the view as you brushed your teeth! The room was pretty spacious and the window seat was excellent. The best part had to be the bed - it was sumptuous. Coupled with the black-out blinds, you couldn't help but get a great night's sleep!

For our holiday, it is all about the room and the Intercontinental did not disappoint us!.

My husband and I stayed here for business and booked a a leisure package which included breakfast and valet parking as well as a 5 pm checkout which for a hotel of this calibre was good value. The problem with booking a package deal however always seems to be that the hotel will charge you for something that was supposed to be included until you point that it is supposed to be included. Other than watching you haven't paid for something you weren't supposed to the Intercontinental Sydney is truly a fine and stylish hotel with larger than average sized rooms. Buffet breakfast is great quality and the beds are extra comfortable. We will definitely stay here again. The pool is small however with no spa so if you are a swimmer be warned! Another thing that was a little annoying was the reception area gets very busy so you may have to wait some time to check in and out.

“Very nice indeed”

InterContinental Sydney

Mar 25, 2008

It is a lovely hotel in one of the top hotel locations worldwide. Wonderful staff, nice ambiance. Loved the bed and linen. The club lounge is definately one of the best I have been in...if not THE best. The magic botanical gardens are outside the door, as is the Opera House. While an InterCon, it has a boutique feel. The rooms are familiar as they follow the formula, but it manages to be intimate.
