We stayed here for 3 nights in March. We arrived early in the morning after a flight from Singapore and were pleasantly surprised to be able to check in. Our room was on the 17th floor with a great view of the harbour bridge, we had booked this and paid extra for the view. Apart from the view the room was a standard 4 star room. Some of the fixtures and decor looked a little tired and the bathroom was rather small and old fashioned compared to others I've seen in similar kinds of places. Overall a comfortable room but if it hadn't have been for the view, it would have been nothing special at all.
We ate breakfast at the hotel on a couple of occasions. There was a good selection of hot and cold options but at $38 per person it was an expensive option unless you were very hungry. On other mornings we grabbed something smaller at the local starbucks and there were plenty of other more reasonably priced options in the area.
The location of the hotel is by far it's biggest asset. It's right next door to the stunning botanical gardens and a 2 minute walk from Circular Quay. Given that we were in Sydney for the first time we didn't eat at the hotel in the evening, there are so many other places to try that this was unnecessary. We did have a cocktail in the bar one evening which was nice. The bar itself shut at 11.30 which we found unusual in a hotel of this nature in a city location.
Overall we enjoyed our stay but whether we would come back is uncertain. I feel for what we paid we might have found something with more of a 'wow' factor which is what you expect from a hotel with a 5 star rating. Without the great view from this room this would have been an entirely average stay.
