“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

We stayed several nights at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was in a perfect location, just a couple of blocks from the harbor and a short distance from the Rocks. It was a modern hotel with all the modern conveniences you might expect. It was not a cheap place to stay, but well worth it for all the right reasons. We would stay there again.

Our room was the Deluxe Harbour Bridge View on the north side of the building. The view of the bridge is clear and uninterrupted. However because we were on the 14th floor there was another building directly in front of our window, but it did not interfere with the view of the bridge. You can also get a slight view of the opera house. The room was clean and more spacious than I expected for a room with a king size bed. There is seating area right by the window and a sofa, which was nice to have. The bathroom was clean and a decent size. Between the bathroom and room there is a window which was interesting. I found out towards the end of my stay that you can also listen to the TV in the bathroom - there’s a turning knob by the power outlet that controls the sound.

My favorite part of this hotel is its proximity to Circular Quay (less than 5 minute walk down the hill), the Opera House (approx 10 minute walk) and The Rocks and Harbour Bridge (approx 10-15 minute walk for great photos). In addition to its location, the staff is friendly and accommodating. We were greeted warmly and with a smile each time. I didn’t purchase a club pass as the weather wasn’t great for photos (which was be the primary reason for me to go up there) though I would recommend purchasing one if you have good weather. There’s also a back entrance to the hotel that will bring you directly to the perimeter of the Royal Botanic Gardens – walk past Concierge and go up the stairs and make a left. It is also the smoking area for guests. Because our stay was so short, we didn’t order any room service as we wanted to venture out in the city so I can’t comment on that part of the hotel service.

I was considering on staying at the Shangri-La and Four Seasons but am very happy that I chose the Intercontinental. We had such a short stay in Sydney (only 1 full day) and this hotel added value and memories to our very short trip.

Important points to consider:
- Location! Location! Location! It’s literally steps away from the Circular Quay and the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Museum of Sydney (across the street from the hotel)
- Short walk to the Opera House, The Rocks and for taking photos of the Harbour Bridge
- Great staff!
- Awesome views of the Bridge – try to get a room on the north side and higher floor

Room Tip: Choose a room on the higher floors and on the north side. My room was on the 14th Floor (a building...

We spent 4 nights at the InterContinental and couldn't have been happier. From the service at reception to the quality of the room ... Everything was absolute top quality. It's the small things that really separate the excellent hotels from the good ones and this hotel ticks all the boxes. The great gym is also a value add. Would go back tomorrow!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2012

July 2010
We decided to try the IC after our disappointing stay at the FS Sydney and our Virtuoso advisors recommendation.
At check in we were warmly greeted by the assistant manager and upgraded to a Governors Suite from the Deluxe Club Harbor View Suite, we paid for. The Governors Suite is 110sq meters with a panoramic view of Sydney harbor and opera house. The suite has a large panoramic view lounge room with a flat screen TV and Bose sound system; there was also a full dining room with a view downtown view and the bridge view. Also there was an office with a desk, fax machine, computer etc. The bedroom was quite large as was the bath with Jacuzzi off the bedroom. There was also a guest bathroom, and a large entryway. To put it lightly the place was jaw dropping over the top fabulous! It is my wife’s favorite room to which all others are measured.

There was a club on the 30th floor for club floor rooms. Drinks and snacks are offered during cocktail hours. Service is very slow and one can only order drinks and orders one at a time from a very slow waiter. The next night we just had wine in our suite and avoided waiting. The Governors suite was much more comfortable than the club anyway.

The hotel is located easy walking distance to the opera house and Sydney harbor. We visited Australia when a USD yielded 1.27 AUD, so rates at the hotel were reasonable. With the AUD as strong as it is we are avoiding Sydney as things are much more expensive and we do not find good travel value there.

The Governors suite is still our favorite suite, thus far, in the world, and the hotel staff (except at the club) are excellent. Weekend rate s are worth looking into for they represent a better value.

Excellent reception and very friendly and helpful staff.
Wonderful view of Sydney Harbour Bridge and Circular Quay - 5 minute easy walk.
Walking distance to city shopping area MYER-DAVID JONES Westfield etc.
Cafe' Opra had nice buffet breakfast. Dinner was very good quality but served a little too cold.
Etch Restaurant food was excellent and evrything was very good & nice atmosphere.
Atrium coffee/tea/wine and cake area was a place we enjoyed every night after going out.
Room was very nice and had everything we needed and expected from a classy Hotel.
Swimming pool and Gym area are very nice. Also nice view to the Harbour from 30th floor.
Best Hotel we have stayed in so far in Oz and we will be back in 2013.

Room Tip: The higher up your room is, facing Circular Quay, the more you see. E.G. Higher up rooms see Bridge...

We spent 5 nights at this lovely hotel, well situated in Sydney just a few blocks from the Circular Quay and the shopping areas and across the street from the lovely Royal Botanical Gardens. Other than the somewhat small bathroom, the room was lovely, spacious and modern, with effective lighting, authomatic shade and very comfortable bed. The concierge services were the best we've ever encountered.

Room Tip: Having a view of the gardens was lovely.

Stunning views in the club, fantastic suites but priced accordingly. Staff generally friendly, but, annoying all drinks shown in the club are not included - champagne bottles and Louis XIII are prominently displayed!

A few service errors, like our luggage was lost for 15 minutes, but overall very enjoyable! $45 for guests on the lounge borders on the unacceptable too.

Room Tip: Pay for the Club if you possibly can - unforgettable views.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review.

Please accept my apologies that there was a slight delay with your luggage, I do hope it did not cause you any inconvenience.

With the $45 charge for twilight drinks, this package is for a 2 hour period including drinks plus canapes as well as overlooking one of the most magnificent harbours in the world. You will find this charge is very much in line and I do hope your guest as well as yourself enjoyed the evening as well as your stay.

Thank you again and we do look forward to welcoming your return.

Yours sincerely
