“Amazing hotel experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

One of the best hotels I have stayed! From the moment of checkin, to the special touches in the room, to yummy breakfast, and the friendly chat as you depart and return-an absolutely fantastic hotel. Will defintely be back!

We were only in Sydney for a couple of nights at the end of our trip and didn't want a large hotel so this one was just right. I'm glad we had a taxi driver to find it for us though it would have been impossible if we had been driving ourselves but that is what made it so nice the seclusion within a busy part of the city. The receptionists welcome was very warm and friendly and she was also very helpful in telling us where to get a really good coffee 'just on the corner'. We understood why she told us that the next day, breakfast in the hotel was a little disappointing....We were told they were changing the menu so the choice was limited and the coffee was not good at all and there was no Vegemite for my toast! We found somewhere else the next day just around the corner. The room was a good size and the bed very comfortable. As mentioned in previous reviews the lighting was a little dim for reading by. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return.

Modern boutique hotel with cozy restaurants/bars. Love the Bose system, iPad and Bvlgari products in the room (studio room). Close to Circular Quay, the Rocks and Opera House (5 to 10-minute walk only), so very central and in easy reach of the top sights.

However, the room is very noisy. The first night, which was a Saturday night, music was playing till the early morning (till around 2-3am), and shortly after that, waste collection vehicles were out in the neighborhood. After checking with the receptionist, she guaranteed that this usually only happens during weekends (re. music). But tonight (Tuesday night), it is on again...

Room Tip: Not sure whether other rooms in this hotel are quieter.

Let's face it - the location and SIZE of room was fantastic. It's like your own private inner-city apartment. We stayed the night of and after our wedding... The Bulgari products were wonderful, the bed incredibly comfy and there were a few little features that made it (an ipod dock that played all over the apartment). However, it's missing the personal touches that make a boutique hotel a boutique hotel! For the amount of money we paid per night (for the best penthouse suite) plus the occasion, there was no complimentary bottle of bubbles or even a congratulatory note (yet the staff were well aware). I even had to pay for a bouquet of flowers to brighten up the room for my wife! And, the bath spewed out brown water on two separate occasions... It was great, but there were a few flaws

Room Tip: We were in the Penthouse with the dressing room downstairs. The room itself was enormous and very c...

If you wanna feel like you belong to an exclusive, private club, this is the place to go. The "hidden" location, the small number of rooms, and the darkly sumptuous interior all contribute to this. But it is not at all stuffy - the reception is very welcoming, warm, and helpful e.g. if you'd like to book a restaurant (especially any in the Merivale group). Although this hotel has been there for a while (I first came here many years ago, when they were still selling Hemmesphere CD's), it has done a good job of keeping up with the times. Now they provide iPads in the rooms, loaded with songs, information, and games. And free wi-fi!

The room itself is very nice, with timber beams on the ceiling, very comfortable bed, and Bulgari toiletries. One downside is that the main lighting control is only at the entrance (the one I could find, at least), and it is a bit far from the bed. Facility-wise, there's only a (very) small gym. People who stay here burn their calories by going to one of the Ivy clubs, about half a block up George St, to which the hotel guests have VIP access (except if there's a private event). But if adding calories is more your thing, the hotel is also surrounded by high-quality restaurants and bars, including the three-hatted Est and the freshly trendy Mr Wong. It's wonderful to dine at one of those places and just walk a few steps back to your room!

Room Tip: Establishment Rooms are spacious, and often there are good offers (less than $300)

The Establishment is a very centrally located hotel. I think its one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. Although I do have a few gripes.

1. The entrance of the hotel is in a back-lane. For those unfamiliar with the layout of the area, it isn't easy to find. The turning in is tight and passes by the refuse disposal area of the restaurant, so you get a good whiff of refuse.

2. The lights in the hotel room can be a little dim in some rooms.

Other than this, my stay here was fantastic. Why?

1. The hotel is strategically located in central area. Food, attraction, arts, sight-seeing, transportation... effectively everything is easily accessible.

2. Staff. All the staff are friendly, helpful, attentive, service-oriented. You really do feel at home from the moment you step in. Staff really go out of their way to help you. 1st class service quality.

3. The hotel itself is very tastefully done up. Very comfortable and it gives you the feeling you can just laze that 30 minutes more before starting your day. Some work could be scheduled to maintain and upkeep some aspects and fittings of the room, but that's a very minor point.

Basically, this is one of the best hotels I've stayed in. When I'm next in Sydney, I know I'd come back here.

Room Tip: Take a room on level 3 and above if you're easily distracted by noise. The hotel used to be a wa...

This hotel is a great little boutique place hidden down a lane way. The staff are wonderful and are full of suggestions and advice for everything you might need.
Try mr wongs next door for a delicious meal too.
The room I stayed in was amazing, I felt like I was on holiday rather than in Sydney for work and the little special touches in this hotel are fantastic. Free wifi, luxurious bathrooms and the enormous cookies left on my pillow everyday were a treat.
Would def stay here again!
