Happy with my stay. The location is convenient - walking distance from Central Station, easy to walk to George St and to Town Hall within 5-10 minutes. Clean rooms and friendly service. Would stay again

The familiarity of global hotel chains mixed with exceptional value and location made this a suitable business stay. Rooms are large, clean with all basic amenities. Service is great from concierge, bar staff and restaurant, front desk does get busy in the mornings with check out.

We will not be returning. There is obviously some renovation works taking place (not that we were notified prior to our booking or arrival) but we will not be returning to this hotel. The standard of cleanliness with the bathrooms in particular is not what we expect from all other hotels with Accor.

I had stayed here some time ago when it was branded as 'Citgate': there seems to have been little change under French hotel group Accor's management.

The hotel's best feature is its location about five minutes' walk from the Railway Square forecourt leading to Sydney Terminal (Central) railway station. It is therefore easy to reach by Airport Link (Sydney's airport train).

The female receptionist of part Marshall Islands origin was pleasant and checked me in after requesting the standard security deposit.

I asked for a room away from the lifts and on a higher floor, so I traipsed down a long corridor to my 17th floor room. The room had an unspectacular outlook but coming out of the lifts one could glimpse the harbour.

The room was clean but just a trifle dated. Bottled water (one litre size) was an outrageous A$7 (strangely at the nearby Syney Mercure where I stayed the next night it was 'only' A$5.50 despite both hotels coming under the Accor group.

The bed had good quality linen but was a little 'bouncy.' The television was a flat screen model with a good range of channels. Only basic toiletries (shampoo, bath gel and soap) were provided. Tea and coffee were also provided.

The small bathroom was fully tiled but dated. Thankfully the bath has not been removed, but the shower is over the bath making it unsuitable for the disabled.

Checkout was quick.

It's about time Accor renovated this hotel.

Dear Victorianlad,
Thank you for your detailed feedback. I can advise that just today i have signed off the 17th floor from refurbishment meaning it now sports new rooms, beds and bathrooms not to mention a new lobby in the hotel entrance. I hope you chose to stay with us again and check out our new product. Thank you again for your comments.
Kind regards,
Danesh Bamji

My partner and I arrived late around 11pm and checked in without fuss. We went up to our room and when I opened the dor I first noticed a black robe in the wardrobe and thought that's a bit different considering most hotels use white. Then I noticed all the other clothes in the wardrobe!!! We went back down to reception and told them they'd put us in someone else's room, not unlike some other reviews on here. All we got was a very weak apology and when my partner told them that wasn't good enough and wanted to speak to the manager she told us she was the night manager (coincidentally that's who checked us in so it wasn't a rookie mistake) and that she'd give us a free breakfast the next morning. It was late and I couldn't be bothered discussing it further.

We did get accompanied to our room by another desk clerk which was nice, although there wasa cot in the room so we were concerned that someone was going to walk in on us!!!!! Was definitely an uneasy night for us.

We DEFINITELY won't be back and I'd suggest you avoid too

Dear timeforanotherbreak,
I am very sorry to hear of your stay. Having just spent a fortune on refurbishing our hotel it is very disappointing to read how our service and attention to detail may have impacted negatively on your experience. Rest assured i have followed this up internally with my team who have also expressed their genuine apologies for your experience. I have noticed your sentiment to never return and please let me know if i can ever help in the future.
Kind regards,

Even though the hotel room and facilities were very good, our experience at Novotel Sydney Central was let down by the staff and their knowledge of what packages are available on the Novotel website. We had booked a family package online which included IMAX (30% of), parking, breakfast, local attractions, etc, etc, and upgraded to a 'City View' room. Upon arrival, all 'City View' rooms had been booked out and we were allocated a 'Balcony Room'. Also, Staff had little knowledge about the inclusions eg. IMAX, parking, breakfast, local attractions. None of this information was displayed on our booking on their computer at reception. Language barriers with some of the staff didn't help either. In the end, alot of minor issues that detracted from what could have been an excellent experience.
