I celebrated my wedding in this hotel , we stayed in the harbour view room which was too die for. Rooms are clean, amenities faboulous. The restaurant on the top floor had the best suckling pig dish....melts in your mouth..compliments to the chef. Just one gripe...one of my guest were not allowed in the bar because he was wearing trendy loafers....i thought the bouncer could have handled the situation better but he acted like a big bully. Needless to say i reported it directly to the manager on duty and he wasn't helpful at al!!!!

Breakfast was great. awesome selection.

I stayed at the Shangri La for work for 3 nights in Sept. I was updated to a room with a view of the harbour and could just see the Opera House. The room itself was nice, with a gorgeous bathroom and the normal fittings you'd expect. I did have problems with the air conditioning and it took two requests on 2 separate days for it to be finally fixed.

The inhouse gym is good and the proximity to The Rocks is great.

Overall the hotel is very nice but not amazing.

The views from the top floor bar or restaurant "Altitude" are possibly the best in Sydney. Book a Horizon Club bedroom on the upper floors with a specially good view and you get treated like royalty.

The hotel is a stones throw from the "Bridge Climb" company. You can stand on top of the Harbour Bridge and possibly identify your Shangri La hotel room.

The concierge managed to get me a table at top Sydney restaurant Tetsuyas after my own attempt was unsuccesful.

The views from the rooms are just amazing and that’s good enough reason to book into The Shangri-La but I expected more and was disappointed. The staff were generally all helpful especially at check in, but the hotel housekeeping and overall coordination was disorganised and lacked care. The room I was checked into was not fully made up – this was remedied quickly. The new room was good but its looking a bit shabby in the bathroom furniture. The turn down service was scruffy (curtains not drawn properly, some not drawn at all, bathroom items not replaced) - looked as if someone had dashed in and done less than half a job. I mentioned this twice to staff. The Horizon Club is more like a café than a place to relax- I have been too spoilt by other Shangr-Las maybe. The food quality and attention to detail in the 1st floor café is also a bit ragged, slow service and in parts has a ‘thrown together feel’.. Sorry to be writing such a review as I am great Shangri-Las enthusiast. So overall this is not 5* service and what a shame.

  • Liked — The great views and convenient location (if you are prepared to walk up many steps)
  • Disliked — Lack of attention to details in execution.

When we entered the beautiful and spacious hotel room we were delighted, but then we saw the glorious unimpeded views of the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. What a fantastic sight after our 22-hour flight to Sydney. We found the room and the bathroom particularly luxurious. The staff was eager to please despite the distractions of the APEC conference and the important foreign delegations staying at the hotel. At the end of our trip we stayed at another beautiful hotel in Sydney where we had previous reservations. Next time we will definitely return to the Shangri-la.
