“Overall Value and Location Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

Great location. Excellent staff team and service. Great funky bar downstairs. Very central on the edge of Kings Cross and yet not in the thick of it. 3 mins walk to train station. Walking distance to many great spots.

Room Tip: double rooms are small ... might be worth paying a little extra for a king bed / room if there for m...

Dear paulcpritchard,

We thank you for taking the time to review the Kirketon Hotel.

It is lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and managed to take advantage of the excellent location.

We are truly lucky to now have two exceptional bars at the Kirketon Hotel. Bottleneck bar & Eatery as well as the multi-award winning Eau De Vie that never fails to impress. It is great to hear that you had an enjoyable time and were well looked after.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Warmest Regards,

The Kirketon Family

Seemed rather "dingy" when you enter the foyer its pretty dark and not inviting, however the receptionist was attentive and easy booking in, there is NO car parking, they offer parking across the road at the car wash for $35 direct to car wash company. The room very small and carpet needs replacing or a good clean. bathroom very outdated and small, tiles and shower recess again needs replacing as looks rather grimy. Bed was comfy sheets clean etc. location very good for where we wanted to go. will not stay again unless i hear it has been renovated.

Dear cherylngreg,

We appreciate you taking the time to review the Kirketon Hotel.

Thank you for your feedback and it is a shame that you find the hotel "average" as we feel we have designed such a unique property with colours, design, features and amazing mirrors.

We continually look to improve any areas that need focus and we are currently in the process of painting the rooms to be completed shortly.

Our unique, heritage listed property does offer the challenge when it comes to the room dimensions and we do have 4 room types that range from 17m2 up to 28m2. Our Standard Rooms are quite compact but packed with all the basic necessities for short and long stays. We do certainly recommend a larger room on a return stay.

We will look forward to welcoming you back soon on completion of the improvements installed.

Warmest Regards,

The Kirketon Family

Stayed at the Kirketon for a couple of nights. It's a small hotel - I walked past the entrance on arrival it doesn't exactly stand out as being a typical hotel lobby. It's really dark inside. Staff are very friendly and helpful. On the room floors it is thankfully brighter, thanks in part to the mirrors on both sides of the corridor!

The rooms are really small and the space isn't used very well. There is a large walk in wardrobe area with the mini-bar in it which is cut off from the rest of the room. When you walk in you almost trip over the bed which is right in front of the door. Bathroom is great, nice modern fittings and clean. Bed was very comfy. There were a few minor issues, but the staff attended to them quickly.

Location good for Oxford Street, you can get a bus to Circular Quay - takes about 20mins - or walk if feeling energetic. Would stay again.

Dear WorldTravellerUK99,

Thank you so much for your review of the Kirketon Hotel.

At the Kirketon, we dare to be different with a completely designed hotel as oppose to the major hotel chains. We do offer a intimate, personal and warm feeling with lighting an design of the property.

We wish you safe travels and look forward to seeing you again.

I've stayed a few times at the Kirketon and have always been impressed with the hotel, specifically the staff! They really seem to care about every guest and go out of their way to be helpful, but in a genuine way. Rooms are also comfy, good beds, pillows etc. Not huge rooms but if you are looking for a good business hotel, it's great.

The rooms are relatively small compared to most hotels in the area, but you need to keep in mind that quality can be much more important than quality.

The mattresses used were excellent, to compare; having spent upwards of $4000 for my own mattress at home, sleeping on this was the same if not better.

While I didn't partake in the mini-bar, the items available were great, and not so brand focused as some can be.

The Internet connection was absolutely perfect, as they don't rely on a proprietary proxy like every other hotel I've ever stayed in. Just get the key from reception, and you are away. No screwing around with signing in to the proxy. This will ring home primarily with any IT staff who regularly visit hotels. If the key stops working, just pick up the phone and reception will advise you of the new one.

The room I stayed in, only had free-to-air TV stations, and no Foxtel, but for me this wasn't that big an issue, it merely reduced the amount of time spent channel surfing before falling asleep.

The daily room service also offers an option to re-use the same bedsheets as the night before, which I applaud them for, I have no need for my sheets to be washed daily, this is a gross waste of resources.

Overall, my advise is to checkin, pop downstairs for some meatballs and a drink with the very friendly staff and enjoy your stay. Don't be afraid to ask reception for location advise either, they know their stuff.

Room Tip: No elevator, if you have lots of luggage, ask for the lower floors.

We stayed for a week and had a winderful experience.
The hotel has a great location, close to Potts Point and Surry Hills areas that have lots of great resturants and bars.
The hotel has 2 really cool bars and is located next to a very popular asian restarant.
The beds, duvet and pillows are just supt comfy, we thinking of buying also for our house.

The service that the hotel team provides to all their guests is just amazing, always there for you.

We will definitely come back when we visit Sydney next time.
