Reading negative reviews about the marriot surprises me greatly. My wife, 2 kids and myself stay here approx 6 times per year and have a positive experience each time. The staff are always helpful and attentive but not overwhelming. of course you pay inflated prices at the bar/lounge, but if you don't like don't buy.The location is great. Maybe I'm just lucky but I doubt it!

Service was absolutely terrible.
I stayed here with my bridesmaids as we were looking for my wedding dress.
We had all travelled one travelled for 4-5hours.
Once we arrived, we went to check in, this is when the disaster started.
We waited close to 30 minutes to be served at reception, there were many people waiting. We were already on a tight schedule and only planned an hour to have a break and put our stuff in our room,
When we were finally served, THE STAFF WERE RUDE!!
We were finally given our key and we put our bags in the room and went back down to meet one of the other girls.

When we went back up with her luggage our key would not work.
All of our money and everything phones bookings for our day were in the room.
We were told we would have to wait 20 minutes to speak to security.

that took another 40 minutes for them to sort out the key and let us back in the room.

All up they wasted close to two hours of our time and we missed our first appointment.

No apology, nothing.

I even wrote to them later on, and never had a reply.

No way will I ever stay here again.

EVER!!!!

Worst decision ever.

I read the previous reviews and I am pleased with my room and decor. The bed isnt the same as the American Heavenly bed but its still great. The room has a view of the top of the Opera House..from the 16th floor...and is conveniently located close to Circular Quay…if you are into the bar scene there are several to choose from just out the back/side door of the hotel.. Convenient to the subway, bus, taxis & ferries…

Room Tip: Higher floors will have better view of the Opera House..

If you get lucky, you might get the room with the Sydney harbor view. The room come in good size with a lot of pillows and comfy bed. There are quite a few interesting tv channel, toilet are big and well equipped. Free wifi at the lobby area but not in the room. Why can't they just increase a little more in room price and get the whole hotel free wifi..I think customer would be more happy

Nice hotel and great location. Close walk to the Rocks area which we preferred to the rest of the city and also very close to harbour boats to zoo, beaches and other trips. We originally chose this hotel as it was the only one we could find with free WiFi but were very pleased with the location.

Room Tip: Ask for a high level room for a view and quietness away fro city streets

My partner and I recently stayed at this hotel while he was in Sydney for business. After enjoying visits to two similar standard Marriott hotels in Paris and London recently, I was sure this would be a similar experience - but it was not. The rather modest looking reception area was poorly staffed and we had to wait some time before checking in.

The room itself was adequate, but I am the sort of person that really likes the bathroom to be properly closed off. In terms of noise. I don't like to hear exactly what is going on in there and unfortunately, I could. And I found the bathroom itself to be somehow somewhat modest and was surprised that the toiletries supplied were quite modest.

There were no robes in the cupboards, no extra blankets (and it got cold at night, with no option to adjust the air conditioning) and the decor was surprisingly drab, although the room was well maintained and clean.

Breakfast in the executive area was not great experience. The area was unpleasantly crammed and noisy - so much so that we opted to pay the extra to go downstairs to the restaurant one morning and on another morning, children were playing, unsupervised, on the computers supposedly reserved for business guests, as we tried to check in for our flights later that day. Surely that is not what they are for?

Staff were mostly friendly enough, and tried to be accommodating, except one concierge who, when we asked about a particular boat trip we were interested in replied "why would anyone want to do that? I can't help you." but compared with the overseas experiences, it all seemed somewhat amateur and a bit casual.

The location is wonderful if you want to be near Circular Quay, which we did. The beds were standard Marriott, very comfortable with the usual numerous pillows. The view was indeed onto the Opera House, as well as the sides of several other buildings (obviously this can't be helped) and it was quiet and comfortable enough.

Overall, the hotel was fine, really, however, for the price, which was comparable to the overseas ones recently visited, I felt it was a bit disappointing and next time, would try a different place.

So disappointed! Upon check-in we were told that they would hold our bags until our room was ready - which is fine. However once our room was ready our bags were not in our room. My poor husband had to go down 26 floors and retrieve our bags because they were taking so long and we had a wedding to go to (tight schedule). For the price we paid I expected more attention to detail, the room was clean but nothing to write home (or on Tripadvisor) about. We paid extra for the Harbour Bridge room view and the bridge was only able to be seen from one particular angle while leaning in uncomfortably - waste of money!! To add to our frustrations, the next morning we incorrectly received a bill for parking charged to our room, not a nice wake-up call! When trying to call through to reception to rectify the issue, I was hung up on - TWICE! After the fourth time on hold for over 10 minutes we FINALLY got through to reception who said they would clear it up. Why was it charged to our room in the first place. This is hardly luxury accommodation, unfortunately this was our first Marriott experience and needless to stay we will stick with our regular hotel chain preferences.
