“Nice, but pricey for a weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

This place is extremely convenient for weekend tourists in the city. So much within short walking distance. But you pay dearly for that convenience. We had read reviews of others places that complained about partying noise all night long at bars below the room. That was one consideration for us in choosing the high rise Marriott. From the 18th floor we had complete quiet on a Fri and Sat night.

It's a strange thing to visit your home town and stay in a hotel but as I was there for work, that's how it turned out. The Marriott is perfectly placed for transport and all the sites, the rooms/views/bed/everything were great. I thought there service and everything else was great. The pool and gym are also first class.

Obviously, I didn't pay for this and it's not a cheap alternative for Sydney but they do have some great package deals.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with a view... some of them cost more of course so take that into consideration...

Hotel is a two minute walk from Circular Quay and the harbour. Rooms have been recently renovated. We had a view of the harbour bridge which was nice.
We had dinner at Icons and would not do this again. The seafood buffet was $99 pp and was of average quality.

Room Tip: A room with a view of the bridge on a high floor

A great hotel to stay and eat. The restaurant Icon is great for breakfast lunch and dinner. The bar is good and relaxing sometimes with a jazz band...and the rooms are clean with great views. Take the rooms with Opera house view and not the Harbour Bridge. The service is good too. Be wary of them putting your luggage in your car, check before you leave the premises. We had a our bags taken downstairs to the car, we thought, but luckily I checked and behold, the luggage were not there. I asked the concierge and he apologised, they did not do it...and they had 1 hour with the bags. Not good especially when we were going to drive away to a location 2 hours from Sydney...overrall a professional place but just be cautious as you do on vacation.

Recently renovated, clean and well equipped hotel ideally located for sightseeing in Sydney. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the rooms were extremely quiet - I didn't notice any street noise. The executive lounge offers good views if you happen to have a city-facing room. Circular Quay buses, ferries and the airport train are all an easy 5 minute walk away - even with a very large suitcase! It's only a short walk to The Rocks, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Opera House. You couldn't really ask for a better location. I will definitely be returning.

Having arrived at the footstep of the Marriott after a 26 hour trek, I was ready for comfort and a shower. Although or room was not ready at 9am when we arrived, we were given the key to a courtesy room where 3 showers, changing rooms were available (at no charge) as well as coffee, internet and a couch. We both availed ourselves of these facilities and were able to enjoy the day. When we returned , later in the day our room was ready and it was spacious, pristine, well appointed and had a lovely city view.
The concierge was extremely helpful and we relied on them for restaurant, tour and airport connection advice.
A lovely stay.

Room Tip: Although we did not pt to pay for an Opera view they are available and (we peeked) are magnificent.

Travelled here in December 2011 with my wife and in-laws for a weekend getaway from Melbourne.

Was originally looking for a simple 4 star hotel along the lines of Ibis or mecure but whilst looking throught lastminute.com.au, found the price of Marriot to be very competitive and hence booked for 2 night stay.

The taxi ride from the airport was not longer than 20 minutes and was pretty reasonable, and the service at the lobby of Marriot was fantastic. We arrived in the morning at around 9am and dropped our bags, which they looked after for us and came back at about 5pm to check ourselves in. We booked a room without the view as it was significantly cheaper, however we still had a partial view of the harbour bridge. For four adults, on two double beds, the price of the room really worked itself out and we were extremely happy with the cleanliness and facilities of the hotel. Everything was neat, fresh and tidy and that is what we looked forward to the most in a hotel as we only needed a place to shower and sleep.

A weekend getaway being 2 days, the location was perfect for us to explore sydney as it was moments from Pitt St mall, circular quay and the Sydney Opera house. Personally on Sunday morning, after having breakfast in the CBD, we went over to circular quay area where my wife and I did the sydney harbour bridge climb and found the climb to be thoroughly enjoyable with one of the most spectacular views standing on a world icon. It is utterly terrifying though, especially if you are afraid of heights.

All in all, a great stay at the Marriot, where it was very value for money for the location and comfort that was offered. Granted there was no beautiful view of the city or the water, nor was it the most opulent hotel room we've stayed in, but functional as functional goes it was not lacking and being neat and tidy and accomodating 4 adults in 1 room in comfort, we could not have asked for more with the money we paid.
