“I've slept in Heaven, and it is this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2011

Never have I stayed at a property that is so well-organized, friendly-staffed, nicely managed as this one. The room was modern and hyper-clean. The restaurant "Glass" offered a sumptuous-buffet for breakfast. The hotel is literally just a few steps from Town Hall City Rail station making it very convenient to get around. I HEART SYDNEY; I Love this hotel.

There are only three minor scrapes in an otherwise flawless performance, but nothing so damaging as to remove a point - perhaps all told these would remove one-half point, total.

1: There was a desk in the room, but no lamp on it or for it. The other lamps in the room were ineffective in getting the desk surface illuminated properly.
2: The television screen was smaller than I expected. Unless you were lounged directly in front of the screen, it was a tad difficult to enjoy the show.
3: As one business reviewer mentioned for this property - the Internet rate is quite high. I should point out that I had the opportunity to select a free breakfast coupon or free Internet. As I was on Holiday and did not have my laptop with me, I never expected to need the Internet - until the airline called and said my flight was late.... The Business Centre is not 24 hours (being open only from 0800-1700), the charge is $10AUD for 30 minutes of Internet time and 45 cents to print a single piece of paper. I was shocked.

If these minor issues are addressed by Management sometime, then Hilton truly has a Diamond property in an already-great city.

Room: If staying at this hotel, I suggest booking the junior suite to get better city view or else all u will see is another office building. Suite is quite spacious, very clean, comfortable bed, tv in bathroom & access to Executive Lounge for evening canapes & drinks - which was excellent!

Parking: So expensive, at $47 self-parking per night it should be complimentary to suite guests at least!

Buffet breakfast: was quite disappointing - no pancakes, bacon was so greasy and looked like it was deep-fried in used oil & sausages tasted strange, I only took a bite of it & couldn't get myself to swallow it! Limited choice in both hot & cold food. For what we paid for buffet breakfast, it was actually a rip off! I have to say Sydney Harbour Marriott has better buffet breakfast.

Location: Hilton Sydney is right across Queen Victoria Building & quite accessible to main train station (Town Hall) & buses. Also only 10 minutes to Chinatown BUT being on George Street don't expect a quiet night in the hotel. If you like the hustle & bustle of city nightlife and don't mind the homeless individuals that likes squatting outside the hotel, then this is the hotel for you.

I loved my room when I checked in. Fresh and modern feel. The honeymoon was short-lived when housekeeping started cleaning the room next door. I could here the door open, toilet lid slam down, moving things around, hear toilet flush. I'm dreading it when guest occupy it and I hear their activities.

Okay, let's get this in perspective. The hotel is generally excellent but when there's something fundamental which puts you off revisiting, you have to just come out and say it. I'm even thinking of giving up my HHonors membership if this is a real Hilton trend (my second experience of this issue at a Hilton).

The bathroom has no door. The sliding panel in the same frosted glass as the wall closes most of the gap where the door should be but it isn't a door. And you'll note the reference to 'most' of the gap. You can't actually see very well through the frosted glass but you can certainly see through the thin air where the sliding panel doesn't quite align with the neighbouring panel.

Seriously, what designer thought that we all want to share our bathroom activities with others in the room? Call me old fashioned but when did having a door to shut suddenly stop being a good idea?

It's enough to put me off going back but the experience in the Glass Brasserie probably would too. Limited options for vegetarians but the gruyere souffle was just sensational. The problem was the wait for the drinks, which we really needed after a long day. The original waiter had apparently forgotten and we had to ask another one who served all the food. And he was great. When we came to pay the bill, we left a cash tip for the excellent service we had from waiter number two but who should suddenly appear at the table but the original guy with no memory, who snapped up the cash. That was really annoying.

Having said all that, if you find yourself in the restaurant, the signature dessert 'Liquorice Parfait' is nothing short of sublime. Maybe worth going for that but bring your own bathroom door.

All in all, it's frustrating for a brand to be most of the way there in accommodation and catering but shoot themselves in the foot by daft shortfalls.

Stay here once a year for business reasns and am always completely satisfied with everything.
Service is always excellent and rooms are spacious and clean with sensational views.
The breakfast at the Glass Brasserie is one of the best in Sydney, and the Executive Lounge is also worth trying out

Love the staff at Hilton Sydney they always make you feel like your number one. A1 service all the time. I recommend an up grade to executive level so you get to enjoy the benefits of the executive lounge privileges. Dreamy king size beds, we stayed in a junior suite and got to see some famous people. I could go on & on... but just book it and try it for yourself.

Stayed here in Sept 2011 for three nights. Reliable in that it is what you would expect at this level, expense etc. No rela surprises except that the Marble Bar underneath is very special and quite awesome if you haven't seen it before. TV's could do with an udate to 1080p.
