“Poor experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

They could not have been bothered if we were there or not. Our booking was made well in advance for 3rooms but we were all on vastly different floors. The disabled access room was on the third floor facing out onto a brick wall as the hotel is built inside an old facade. It was a dark and gloomy room much in need of redecoration. Breakfast was average quality and expensive. Visit saved by an excellent and well informed concierge.
Not what we expect of a holiday inn.

Room Tip: Get a room on a higher floor

By all accounts this is a very average big city hotel. If you are going to a concert not a better location in the city. It is in the Heart of China town. It is about 500 meters from Darling harbour.

The Morning Breakfast is below average. If you are going to serve bacon, the drippings need to be drained. The coffee out of the buffet coffee machine is disgraceful. Walked across the street to the Novotel ("Brews") for a very nice coffee 5 of the six mornings.

had breakfast at the Novotel - it much better than the HI.

If you need to be in SYD and your budget will not afford anything more it will do.

Room Tip: You must get a room facing the street otherwise you will be looking at a brick wall through your win...

Love this place. It's so well situated for family fun. McD's across the road for brekkie, all the Darling Harbour tourist places a short walk away - Chinatown (for great dinners), ferry, Aquarium, IMAX theatre, Chinese Gardens, Harbourtown, Paddy's Markets, Tumbelog Park... The rooms are spacious with all the amenities and staff are extremely helpful.

Room Tip: Have stayed many times and been upgraded a few times. All rooms great.

Hotel reasonably new and rooms fairly clean, although furniture was damaged. The greatest problem of this hotel, as in many places in Australia, is the extremely poor service. While the staff at reception were trying their best they were all pretty clueless (a result of poor management). The overpriced breakfast was nothing but a disgrace. Long queue to find a table, again the result of understaffing and extremely poor management. The food was below standard. There was not even a choice of different teabags. The croissants tasted of rubber.
All in all, this property has some potential, but the problems clearly have to be laid at the management's door. Staff need to be trained properly, motivated and, yes, managed.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Our stay at the Holiday Inn for a concert was a great location, being right near China Town provided us with a range of choices for food. Unfortunately the service at the beginning of our stay was dreadful, having to phone reception numerous times to receive our bags as we were in a rush to make a reservation. Depending on luck of the draw, we did get help with directions when checking out which was very helpful.

As we returned to the Holiday Inn we went to the bar for a drink and saw (what looked like the manager) being rather rude to his employee who was trying to do the right thing and serve me first.

Other than that, the Holiday Inn is good for a short stay, walking distance to Pitt Street and good restaurants as well as the entertainment centre.

Room Tip: Depending on what hours you are there, be mindful of the monorail and concert dates.

Spent 6 nights here and had a great stay with easy access to many locations i.e monorail station & light rail station (3 min walk), Paddy's market (3 min walk), Chinatown (just behind the hotel), Sydney Entertainment Centre (just opposite the hotel), Darling Harbour (15 mins walk).
The hotel room we stayed was spacious and clean. We enjoyed staying here due to the excellent location and nice room.
