“Great experience in authentic absinthe traditions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

Not the place if you're looking for a rowdy night (as were some of our sullen neighbours on the next table), but a fantastic experience and some great tasting absinthes can be found here. Highly recommend it to any travellers to Sydney

“What a gem.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012 via mobile

A small intimate area in the back of an old terrace tastfuly decorated. After checking the place out on the net thought we would give it a go on a recent trip to Sydney. Found it a delight and the theatre of it all was fantastic. Right from having to buzz in through the wrought iron gates to the whole absinthe experience. We even learnt a bit about the history of absinthe. If travelling in I would book as we did so you wont be dis appointed as the place is small. Thanks to all at Absinthe Salon as we had a great night.

“A very enjoyable experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2012

This is a great salon bar where you can drink absinthe. I have never had it before so it was a great experience. You can only get in with reservations and there is a 3 drink maximum per person because the alcohol content is so high!
There's a lovely entrance where you ring the bell to get in. And then you are taken into the main salon. The decor was amazing and I felt that I was sitting in a upmarket cafe in Paris yet warm and cosy. The bartender was very informative and told us how to select our choices from the extensive menu by starting with the lower alcohol content absinthe first.
There are lovely water taps on the tables which you can use to dilute the absinthe. I found out that I don't like absinthe, having tried a few sips of various other types, but I still enjoyed the experience.
This is a place where you go to have a quiet drink with your mates and interesting conversation. I would definitely recommend going early as soon as they open and then out for dinner afterwards, making a night of it.
Very tasteful! Just remember you can't get in without reservations!

“It's a delightful absinthe experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

This is the type of place you go to enjoy the experience and theatre of drinking absinthe. Forget all the 'green fairy' stuff, it's a taste of Parisian sophistication in the heart of Sydney and the staff are fabulous experts in their field. There is an unrivalled selection of absinthe and the drink is to be savoured - it's about taking your time to soak up the atmosphere. The service is exceptional and it could certainly be enjoyed for a special occasion, but then it would also make a wonderful weekly event. There is a 3 drink maximum and no food served, so my advice is to go pre-dinner as your taste buds will come out tingling and you'll enjoy a special meal afterwards.
