Jamie Olivier's restaurant chain is as you expect of his cooking; simple ideas made with fresh, good quality ingredients.
The prices are more than responable. There's free oil soaked italian bread when requested and starters range around $5-$15, the pricer ones being sizable sharing platters of meats and cheeses - italian food at it's best. Mains come in 2 size choices. For dessert, their $9 chocolate and rasberry brownie was exquisite.
All in all, price wise you'd be hard pushed to get a similar bargain for that level of taste in the CBD. For 2 of us, both having starters, large mains, desserts and a cocktail each (from a lovely Jamie personalised selection) we spent just under $60 each, for 3 delicious courses and alcohol. If you were only having one course, you couldnt spend more than half that price.
The waiting period is a testiment to how popular it is amongst the Aussies as well as us proud Brits. During one of their busier periods (Friday night, we arrived at 7:30) we we're told to wait 1hour 30minutes! And as a table of less than 6 for dinner we couldn't book ahead.
My only other niggles were the chairs also became quite uncomfortable after an hour having no cushioning. It's also not the most romantic spot as, being so busy, it's loud, but not loud enough that you have to shout thankfully! Service was friendly, polite and we didn't have to wait for our courses but we had to remind them of our free bread twice before it came.
> get there early or expect to wait on weekend nights and plan to pre-drink elsewhere as the bar is also pretty full
> try and get a booth/partial booth for the cushioned seat
