“Nice, confortable stay. Wonderful location (contrary to the reviews!)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

Frankly, I read the other reviews about this hotel only after I'd booked it, and was quite skeptical about my stay and experience because of the fact this hotel is in Sydney's Red Light area!

All of my apprehensions were quashed as I spent one day at the place. The hotel is comfortable, location jut cannot be better (absolutely next to Kings Cross station, if you take the Victoria St exit). There was a lingering thought on my mind about getting into trouble in the red light area...but nothing of the sort happened (they have better things to do than bother you).

If you're planning to stay at the place, don't base your decision on what other reviewers have to rant about it's location. Trust me, Kings Cross has very good connectivity to all the places you'd visit on your Sydney trip.

Room Tip: Try to get a harbor facing room...and on the top floors, as it will keep the noise from Kings Cross...

Greetings Ujju!

Good on you for giving us a try! I cannot agree more with the sentiments in your review, you obviously know what you're talking about considering you're becoming quite the serial reviewer on this site! Many of our guests are suprised by how convenient our location is transport-wise and as you mentioned our harbour views are nothing short of breathtaking.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a review and happy travels!

Warm regards,

Troy Newton

The Mercure Potts Point is a budget-style accommodation but not at a budget price. The room was badly in need of updating and didn't contain so much as a chair and tables. Not even any bin liners in the bins!!!!' A very noisy location - motorbikes and police sirens all night long!

Hello Linda,

It is very disappointing to read about your unsatisfactory experience at our hotel earlier this week. We will certainly check the furniture in the room you stayed in as every room in our hotel should at least have a desk & an armchair. We all love a decent night's rest and can I assure you that we do have many rooms that are far away from the hustle & bustle of the street that our helpful staff would have loved to have moved you into.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, I hope you return to our hotel sometime in the future to experience a proper night's stay at the Mercure Potts Point.

Regards,

Troy Newton

Hotel is located in an area, which is really similar to Soho in London, Pigalle in Paris or Kallio in Helsinki: a lot of adult entertainment business along with pharmacys, fast food places, newspaper agencys, cafes etc. Area feels safe, original and very local and easy to reach with underground train to King's Cross.
Hotel itself is quite standard and clean with expensive internet connections.

Room Tip: Darlinghurst road is quite busy so rooms at higher floors are more quit.

Pleasant and efficient service. Great position (but Williams Street end of Kings X - not Potts Point). Comfortable and reasonably quiet room with great bed and pleasant but dimly lit bathroom (but please replace toilet roll holder that falls on floor when you touch it!). Didn't use bar or restaurant but reception and public area overall finish and decor is modern and spacious. Plenty of places to eat, drink and shop nearby including Kings Cross Hotel with great bar and bacony with cheap and good food. Recommended! (Warning: beware room WiFi charge which is not clearly indicated in room info. Use lobby free WiFi or pay in room).

Hi there!

Thank you for taking the time out during your New Year's Eve to leave such a great review of our hotel! We are proud of the great area that we're located in; and as you mentioned there are plenty of great restaurants, bars & cafes in the area which keep us staff very well fed! I must agree that the Kings Cross Hotel balcony is a terrific spot to perch on for a relaxing drink, it's one of my favourites.

I'll have our housekeeping team combing our bathrooms for this rogue toilet roll holder!

I hope to welcome you back soon!

Since my last review of this hotel in August, I have stayed a few more times, the most recent in December, and can confirm that they have indeed fixed the water temperature/pressure problem.

The shower is now a pleasant/safe experience!

This hotel has a great location at the edge of Kings Cross, close to public transport.
The staff were very friendly and the room clean. The full size hair dryer was a bonus! I found the room to be very quiet. The only suggestion I would make is to perhaps close the curtains over as the room was on the western side and when I first went into the room about 4pm it was very hot. Only a small criticism though.

Hello Kind Traveller,

What a wonderful review! It’s true that the sun really streams in through the windows in the afternoon. It’s lovely once the air conditioning gets going and closing the curtains is a good suggestion.

It’s hard to beat a good location, friendly staff, a clean room and a decent hair dryer (as someone suffering from hair deprivation this isn’t a priority for me but I’m glad it was a winner for you!).

Please come and stay again. Happy New Year!
